DID YOU KNOW?

Goal of Performance (GP) is at the corner stone of developmental training for our athletes.  To give you an understanding, imagine running against Usain Bolt in the 100m. When the gun sounds, 9.58 seconds later he is crossing the finish line. The Question is, where are you on the track when he crosses the finish line?

Given your best effort; you may be 60 or 70 meters into the race. The point is: how far are you when he crosses the finish line? Those 30 to 40 meters you are behind Usian Bolt is the focus of our training regiment. To make up that difference, we train our athletes to a time not to competition.  We develop a GP for the athlete, starting with the World (National) Record and using the top 10 and 20 performance times.

 Example: 400m Intermediate Hurdler

The National Record for 17-18 year old Young Men in the 400H is 49.56 seconds. To determine a GP; we focus on the top 10 or 20 performance times of the last ten years. Historically, 17 to 18-year old male intermediate hurdlers in the last 10 years have won the National Championships running 51.8 to 52.8 seconds. So we set the GP at 53 seconds. This time will prove to be a very competitive time for a 17 to 18- year old male intermediate hurdler. We focus our GP's on the high end; as the athlete trains and performance times near his GP, we adjust and move GP lower.

IF YOU DID NOT KNOW: A former 5 Hills athlete holds this record. Do you know who that is?

Talent runs deep and development is evident in all we do as a team……..

It’s all about the stretch to curtail injury: Mrs. Glass  was caught stretching before she hit the floor. We expect a demonstration of those skills at the next practice Mrs. Glass.

On a rink or track SPEED and ENDURANCE are imminent: Running Shoes, Spikes, 2 Wheels or 4 Wheels our athletes were built for Speed and Endurance . Our older athletes showed that as they raced at top speeds in a circle for 3 hours!  Coaches I hope you took notes ;-)

Who hit the floor and bounced back?  Rumor has it Mrs. McDaniel has some smooth moves with only one slip up that took her down. Jace McDowney on the other hand wins by far for the most floor time on his bottom.
