Communication From A Far

Posted by Robert Griffin, Jr on Feb 14 2003 at 04:00PM PST
Letter #1 - Hello Five Hills Track & Field Club Family. We made it to our destination in good cheer. For some strange reason, everyone wants to know how you all (JAck Rabbits) are doing? I told them, our athletes are true professionals, and would be hard at work. It's important to maintain normalcy in your lives. We shall return full of vigor. Coach Expose and Coach Luis are having a good time adjusting. Of course, we miss our family and friends. I will continue to add to this letter, as we gain access to a computer link. The Kuwaiti people we have met are nice and the environment for which we live is accommodating. There are no sad stories, just energetic people wanting see your smiling and competitive faces soon. Do not be alarmed if I don't write you all continuously. Gaining access to a computer comes at a premium. (Long lines and limited usage allocations) So, until next time, smile more and give thanks to GOD on our behalf, and yours. Letter # 2 (Six days later) Coach Griffin cornered me, so I can say hello. Well, Let's see: Really, I don't feel nervous. I'm confident I can do my job, and come home alive and safe. There's really no need for you all and my family to worry. I'm just out here trying to protect my country, and all the people in it. I talked to my family (Parents, wife and small two sons) and told them I was okay. My family misses me and I them. They want me to come home safe (Coach and I have more, but time ran out). We will continue later, okay Jack Rabbits: Train Hard! Okay, we are back 6 hours later: Well, I've (Coach Luis) been reading my Bible and keeping my head up high. I've been keeping a good attitude, because I know there are lots of people that are down, upset and there must be someone to re-assure them that everything will be okay. Those long distance runners like Marie, Zachary, Olivia, Paul to name a few. You better be in better shape than I upon my return or its back to Bambi Bounds, Hurdle Hops and the everything else Coach Griffin taught us in our 2002 season. In the meantine, I hope everyone back in America are safe. I hope everyone will pray for us over here, and I will talk to you later, Take Care. Coach Luis F. Aguero, Jr. I (Coach Griffin) hope you all are having fun and not allowing that television to dictate your mood. Coach Expose and I were having a two hour conversaton with many about our track club family. She marveled how Brittany jumped on her big sister Jasmine early on in the track season serving notice that she's not the fastest in the Clarke household. She really liked Blakely, because she said Blakely reminded her of herself in her high school days of running track, and she could really help her excell. She went on and on about Marchellous (I hope I didn't butcher his name, forgive me) and how we worked hard on improving his running mechanics, because the kid has speed. She gave Robert props, because we have this young man (From Houston)with us who ran against the Texas Heat's All American Brendan Christian, now at the University of Texas (Freshman). He wants to see Robert, because he remembered us in Virginia in 2001. Coach Expose is busy writing her letter to you all, so hopefully I can get to you before the server shut down in three days. I just wanted you all to know that the people in the picture are not us, but we are dressed just like them. I charge the entire Five Hills Track & Field Family to call my wife, Coach Luis's wife, and Coach Suzanne and tell them you heard from us and are praying for our safety. That would be a nice gesture. Remember, Fast hands create fast feet. The hands drills movement in place for 30 seconds is a must, and the cycle drills with the leg and feet are a double must. The stairs are you friend. The forward Lunges are your friend. The rope sprinting, single leg jumping (ten- tens) and running are your friend. God Bless America and its people. Letter #3 10 days after landing, it looks a little like Dallas Hello Trackers, I've been doing okay. I went through alot in this move, especially moving my son Chay to Colorado Springs, Colorado. It does something to a mother with they leave their child. I wasn't happy initially, and relied on Coach Griffin to keep me focus, especially since I too have people who rely on me to make important decisions. Coach Griffin always comes and provides a word of encouragement, even when I think he's pre-occupied with others. He take cares of you all and us without reserve. He provided me with Joshua 1:9, and then made me read Joshua 1:8. I wondered why very shortly. I'm encouraged, and not worrying. I'm alert with no fear, but have concerns, which Coach Griffin says will make me pay attention to detail. He's right. I will not tell you this was an easy move, but I'm gaining strength and confidence. I missed my son so much, and he's gaining skills I wanted to witness and help him develop. Coach Griffin utilizes the Five Hills Athletes 2002 season to get me relax and talking about good times. Everything he said in the second letter was true, those practices were inspiring and I would not trade my association with you (athlete) and your parents for nothing. My life in Texas has been enhance by my affiliation with you all. I'm praying for our safe return and your development, so you all be encourage and train smartly. Coach Expose - GOD BLESS Letter #4 - 14 days from my life and the people I enjoy seeing. Well, life is good despite the circumstnaces we encounter. I'm doing well, especially as I see more and more young people embracing Christ. It may seem funny how their mortality or human existence increases in thought during a conflict. But, to me; it does my heart well. I pray for many too include myself for wisdom, knowledge and the right encouraging words to the troubled. I even prayed over every athlete we have now and from last season. GOD has been good to us. The Eastside Baptist Church van was a blessing, and I prayed over our athletes safety, becasue the parents of those athletes entrusted us for their children safety. Last year, I was at the track before our Annual Tuner Meet at about 5:30 in the morning. I connected the sound system, and prayed long and diligenct over the arriving teams from all over Central Texas and our very own Jack Rabbits. I still remember my voice carrying over the hills. The wind was calm and the fresh air made me feel confident and encourage for taking on the Five HIlls Track & Field Club from Coach Harrison. I'm not worried, though you all may be viewing or receiving different information than I. I truly believe this conflict on the horizon shall not reach war status. That's my profession, and that's between my Creator and Me. I feel, I'm sharper in my specialty than any point in my career, so paying attention to detail is not compromised because of my conviction. I pray that you all do not get consumed into the television news flashes and up-to-date reports around CNN, FOX News or the alphabet networks. All of us in this region are poise, prepared and established. Serving our country has brought about many benefits, just knowing you all is worth following our President's order. My family, friends, interest in hobbies and you wonderful and aspiring and inspiring athletes and parents are well worth the fighting for continuning to know freedom without concessions. Support the departed soldeirs and their awaiting families. This crisis involves all of us. So, when you see a soldier's family here and about in the Central Texas Area, please let them know,"We (FIve HIlls Track & Field Club Family) care about their love ones' sacrifice to perserve our country's way of life. You may not agree with "WAR", but support the country, support the families, and show a united front. You all are missed, and I can't wait to get back to you all soon. I'm sorry, in case you diddn't know: Coach Expose, Coach Luis and I departed the Long Star State on Robert's birthday, Febrauary 12, 2003. "Train Hard, Eat Right, Hydrate!" Coach Griffin - "You all are missed!"
