Welcome to the home of the RGMVM Dodgers - Sponsored by Councilman Dennis Gallagher Rain rain go away and come back another day. Mother Nature has not cooperated as the season is drawing towards its conclusion. The bad weather has not dampened the enthusiasm of the Dodgers, a RGMV little league team in the instructional division. The team is lead by first year coach Joseph Klesin who from the very beginning has brought a lot of enthusiasm and fun to the team as he continues to practice and work hard on hitting and fielding. Assisting coach Joe are coach Mike and coach Rob. The team has played four games so far this year and with each practice and game you can see the kids getting better and better. The team is very well rounded, as both defense and hitting are strong points. Lets breakdown the offense and defense as seen in the first four games. As we all know good teams begin with defense. Defense: The catching duties are mostly shared by Michael the “Goalie” G. and Alex “The Great”. Also making solid contributions behind the plate are Thomas “Lefty” John, Anthony M. and Anthony G. The infield is lead by 1st baseman Karl “Rocket Arm” K. and 2nd baseman Ryan the “Vacuum”. Michael “Doubles” R. and Anthony M. share the shortstop duties. Alex handles the hot corner. Steven and Thomas John are often called upon to make big plays in the infield at both short and second. The infield is complemented by its outfielders, which include Michael A., Joseph, Michael T., Nick and Andrew. Offense: Hitting is a bright spot as you can count on Karl and Michael R. for doubles. Michael G. is the perfect table setter for the big bats. The hitting is fun to watch as all Dodger players hit through the lineup. Many players have had four hit games including Thomas John and Steven. A sign of a good hitter is the ability to hit to the opposite filed. You can count on Alex, Ryan, Michael A. and Andrew to go the other way. Determination: Look no further than Coach Joe who religiously looks for the opportunity to go and practice with his team. Practices started out on Saturdays at PS 113 and the goal was for fielding grounders and making accurate throws. The 113 routines grew stale and Coach Joe moved the practices to Friday’s at Marfia Park. The routine now includes fielding grounders and turning two. As all the parents know rain does not scare Coach Joe. Gratitude: We would like to than all the parents for taking the time and bringing the kids to the games. I may be mistaken but I believe the Dodgers had the most representative who play in the Mosher tournament. Thank to all the parents especially the dad’s of Thomas John, Ryan and Anthony M. for helping out at practice. Entertaining: We certainly have had a few entertaining moments this season. Let’s look at the top ten list:
  1. Coach Joe loses control of his pitches and hits Alex, Thomas John and Michael G. with pitches.
  2. Michael G.’s Mom causes havoc in the dugout as the players look for cheese-doodles.
  3. Angry parents look on at practice as Coach Joe could care less about the rain.
  4. Anthony M's dad vows to never do dugout duty again.
  5. Karl, Alex, Michael G., Anthony G., Anthony M., and Michael T. play with the Rockies in the Moser tournament.
  6. Alex falls in a puddle of mud as he losses his balance on a throw from first. At the end of practice Karl, Michael G., Thomas John, as well as their dad’s are all covered in mud.
  7. Michael R.’s back-to-back diving plays at third followed by Alex’s stab at third on a hot shot.
  8. Karl pitching and Alex catching against Rookie league players
  9. Michael G. and Thomas John throwing runs out on similar plays.
  10. Coach Rob striking out his team and getting the hook from Michelle G.
Recreation: Every once in a while, the players need to have some "down time" during a game to do a cartwheel, build a dirt pile, or toss their cap in the air. After all, isn't sports about having fun? Stars: Lets’ congratulate the following All Stars as they represent the Dodgers on All Star weekend. Karl, Michael G., Ryan, Michael R. and Anthony M.
