The season did not start very well for The Metro Baseball Magazine baseball team
this spring. The RGMVM LL 12u team started their spring season quickly going
0-2. Hard work and perseverance prevailed as the team ended the regular season
with a 7-6 record. Injuries and other circumstances
had an adverse impact on the
overall
season results. But the 10,
sometimes 9, men roster kept on fighting and
grinding game after game. The gutsy pitching and hitting by players like John
O'Rouke, Joe Fragala and Mike Urbano kept hope
alive
at the beginning of the
season, for
the Metro team. The pitching and the hitting then became
contagious as players such as Sebastion Riviera, Chris Mannino, Ricky Veruzy,
Jack Sinot, Luis Torres, Brian Morares began to tear
the cover off the ball with their bats. Daniel Quinn, Ryan White and Tyler
Fricano
also had their share of spectacular plays and hits as the season moved along
.

The team moved on to the post season where they went 4-0
. They went
on to win it all
making the entire experience unforgettable
for the 11 and 12 year olds.

The Edward L. Moser Memorial Golf Outing

Coaches/Parents,         Many of you know Joe Moser, who coaches CYO and AAU basketball.  What you might not know about him and his wife Carol, is that they lost their son, Edward, to cancer. Edward was a terrific young athlete who played baseball at RGMV, CYO basketball for St Pancras and roller hockey for the league sponsored by the 104th Precinct.  At the age of 12, Edward was diagnosed with bone cancer and the next year lost his leg to the disease, ending his participation in sports and ultimately claiming his life at age 20. Throughout his illness Edward tried to lead as normal a life as possible, just like any other teenager would and graduated from Archbishop Molloy High School. The disease would claim his life shortly thereafter. Since that time Joe and his family have raised thousands of dollars to support The Tomorrows Children’s Fund, (TCF) in Edward’s memory.  TCF is an organization committed to helping children and families coping with cancer and serious blood disorders. They were there for Carol and Joe and continue to be there for them and thousands of other families.  More information about TCF can be found at  http://atcfkid.com/ The below flyer details a charity golf outing on Monday June 25, in memory of Edward.  If anyone is interested in playing in the outing or in making a donation of any kind, please contact me, Bill Cope, Mike Matlak or Joe.  As we all spend time coaching various sports we should try to remember not to take for granted the overall good health of our kids. - Gerry Lanci
