6 Aug. '04. After the spring season, a quality forward, Carsten G., left Inter to join our sister D2 team, Ajax (previously Thunder) -- but, during the summer Inter acquired 3 talented forwards/mid-fielders and 1 talented defender/utility player: Mati C. via U13/MSC Badgers Patrick E. via U14/MSC Synergy Thunder Chris M. via U13/MSC United Cameron K. via U13/Potomac Cougars Inter's increased roster and arsenal of talented players will bring stronger competition to D1 this fall against excellent opponents, including 2 rising D2-D1 teams, TASC Team America 91 Red and Potomac Cougars '92; and, a very talented/rising U12-U13 Potomac Fusion (previous Baltimore BAYS '93) -- along with our perennial D1 friends and strong/formidable opponents, MATT Crew, FREE Titans, ASC Premier AC 91W, and MSC United -- as well as Inter's old D3/D2 rival, MCLN Thunder, who joined/survived D1 last spring. It will be a great and fun fall season ahead for sure. Good soccer to all!

Inter Scrimmages with Blast

Posted by Alan Olson at Jun 23, 2004 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
24 Jun. '04. On their way to the Regionals next week, the U13G/BETH Blast invited Inter for a friendly scrimmage and tune-up at the MD Soccer Plex. The weather was warm, less humid with bright and sunny skies. Both teams moved the ball up and down the field well, disallowing the other any real scoring threat and the 1st half remained scoreless. Likewise in the 2nd half, both teams moved the ball well back and forth, until a Blast player (12) penetrated Inter's left defense, juking some defenders and sent a nice crossed ball to a teammate in the goal mouth who launched a high arcing lob into the net for the 1st goal of the match late in the 2nd half. The ball was unreachable by Joe, who was a defender tryout candidate but volunteered to play GK since Rob was absent. Both teams decided to play another period, and early in the 3rd period, Sam received a pass and dribbled up to the right goal mouth area where a Blast player challenged and tackled the ball, and Sam hit the turf -- but quickly got up and scrambled to the ball and lifted a nice, hard shot far into the back of the right side of the net. Late in the 3rd, the Blast number 12 (Caroline) received a pass from her teammate and made a brilliant run through Inter's left defense and zig-zagged into the goal mouth, juking and freezing several defenders before strking a hard shot past Nat who volunteered to play GK since Rob was absent. End of scrimmage, 2-1, Blast. Good luck to the excellent Blast team in the Regionals next week!

Roadrunners Win MD State Cup

Posted by Alan Olson at Jun 5, 2004 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
6 Jun. '04. The rain stopped during the night, although the skies were cloudy, a bit windy with coolish temps in the low 60's. It was a splendid match between two heavy weight contestants, with both teams sending jabs back and forth, attacking and counter-attacking. At about the 10 minute mark, Tre of the RR's collected a nicely placed CK in the goal mouth and slammed in a hard, left-footed shot past Eric of MSC. About 10 minutes later, after a nice CK was launched into the goal mouth, a furious scramble to the ball ensued with MSC collecting the ball and sent it into the net, and the match remained tied at the half, 1-1. In the second half, both teams kept attacking and counter-attacking and it seemed that the match might remain tied and go into OT; however, with about 5 minutes left, Jamal of the RR's received a pass in right side of the box and managed to elude a MSC defender and sent a nice sharp-angled shot into the net past MSC's excellent GK, Eric. With only a few minutes left, MSC managed to create a couple of scoring opportunities but to no avail. Congratulations to the Roadrunners, U12B/MD State Cup Champions, for their hard fought victory over their previous D1 arch rival, MSC United, 2-1. Congratulations also to MSC United for achieving its Finalist showing. Also, Congratulations to other BSC teams who won MD State Cup as well: U13G Blast, U15B United, U16G Eclipse, U17G Excel, U18G Strikers, U18G Rowdies (wildcard), U19B Alliance, and U19G Dragons.
