  • 1. Barrie vs Markham - Round 1: YSBA Elimination Tournament 2004 OBA's - The season comes to a close Congratulations to the champions: Windsor Riverside - AAA Champs, Ajax Spartans - AA Champs and the Aurora Blue Jays A champs. Barrie played some exceptional baseball but was eliminated in the semi-finals. Barrie faced a very demanding schedule - playing three games on Saturday, one of which went to extra innings for a total of 23 innings in a day. The pitching was awesome for the whole tournament: Graham, Adam, Kory, Dane, Zach, Jacob, Branson all pitched exceptional giving up a combined 6 earned runs in 5 games (37 innings). The games featured some great clutching hitting, and there were many defensive highlights. In the end, Barrie advanced to the final day along with the three teams they had already played - previously defeating two of them. Barrie was also the only team in the final four not to have had a bye in the schedule. The boys also faced the task of playing three games back-to back-to back (Noon, 3PM and 6PM). The games were great and the boys left it all on the field playing their best. Game by Game Results Tournaments 1. North York (June 4-6). Barrie pitching looks good but the defence and hitting needs to improve. The team commits 20 errors in four games and exits early in the North York tournament: 2. Cambridge Results (June 18-20). Barrie comes up short in Cambridge but finishes the tournament on a positive note. The 16 team tournament featured a field of the best teams in Ontarion. In the end Etobicoke came out on top, downing the Mississauga Tigers 9 - 3 in the finals. 3. Ajax Results (July 9-11). Barrie plays well as the team rounds into form facing off against the Mississauga North Tigers in an outstanding tournament chamionship semi final game: 4. Newmarket Results (July 31-Aug 2). Barrie closes out the regular season at the Silver Bat Tournament. The boys played well but hit a defensive bump in the elimination game. The pitching was great! 5. Barrie's run at the YSBAs comes to an end (Aug 13-15). The team's two year reigh as YSBA champs is brought to an end as Vaughan snaps Barrie's 10 consective wins at the annual tournament: 6. Barrie advances to the OBA Finals (Aug 21/22). Barrie returns to form and the team plays some of the best baseball of the season to advance to the OBA Championship Tournament. At times the team looked awesome banging out 16 hit in each game and adding a home run in every gave: Regular Season Team

    Import Classifications

    Posted by Mark Russell at Dec 20, 2003 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
YSBA has made changes to "Import Classifications". Basically, an "Import" is a player who resides outside the geographic boundaries of a Local Association who, for whatever reason, decides to play in another Local Association. "Import" quotas have been established to, for the most part, limit player movement and establish the maximum number of players who can play on a team from outside the geographic area. The maximum number of players that can play on a given rep team from outside the Local Association's boundries are as follows: Rookie & Mosquito - 2 Peewee - 3 Bantam - 4 Midget - 5 Junior Unlimited All players playing for a "Local Association" outside of their residencey area require a "Release" from the Local Association within which they reside. This decision makes it difficult for a player from the areas surrounding the BMBA (i.e., Orillia, Angus, Alliston, Stayner, etc) to be able to play ball at a higher level. Previously the "Import" rules made it easier for a player to move to an Association that offered the opportunity to play ball at a higher level.

Barrie Minor Mosquito Red Sox 2003
Most Memorable moments Here they are, the top five most memorable games from last season. Click on the links and reflect back on the heart stopping moments from the summer gone by:
  • 5. Barrie vs Vaughan - Semi Finals: Brampton Tournament
  • 4. Barrie vs Cambridge - Round Robin: Cambridge Tournament
  • 3. Barrie vs Brampton - Round Robin: Brampton Tournament
  • 2. Barrie vs Oakville - Finals: Brampton Tournament
  • 1. Barrie vs Vaughan - Elimination Game: OBA Provincial Finals 2003 OBA's - The season comes to a close The Barrie Red Sox congratulate last year's OBA Rookie Ball finalist, the Cambridge Cubs, who this season defeated the Oakville A's in the finals of the Ontario "AAA" championships. In "AA" action the Mississauga North Bengal's came from behind in the bottom of the 7th to defeat the Markham Mariners 8-7 and win the Ontario "AA" championship. Mississauga bounced Barrie earlier in the day in the tournament semifinal 12 -4 bringing the Red Sox 2003 season to a close. The tournament had many memories including the heart thumping 9 inning match with Vaughan. Here's how the four day tournament went: 2003 YSBA Tournament Results - Barrie Sweeps
Barrie Baseball sweeps the York Simcoe Tournament - Triple Championships -
Barrie Minor Baseball Rep teams traveled to Vaughan August 8-10 to compete at the York Simcoe Zone Championships. By the time the final out was made three of Barrie's teams had won championships and they did so by going undefeated. The Restored Sports Major Mosquito team went 5 - 0 winning the finals against Vaughan 16 - 6 and out scoring the opposition by a combined score of 70 - 22 during the tournament. The Minor Mosquito team also went 5 - 0 defeating Aurora "A" in the finals 16 - 5 and out scoring the opposition by a combined 60 - 21. In the closest match of the day, Barrie's Murray Demolition Rookie Ball team defeated Bolton by posting 5 runs in their last at-bat to score the come from behind 10 - 9 victory and complete Barrie's championship sweep. The Rookie ball team went 4 - 0 and out scored the opposition 56 -18 during the tournament. For the 2003 Minor Mosquito team it is back-to-back titles as they repeat as YSBA champs. Here is the team's game-by-game summary: 2003 Brampton Tournament Results The Red Sox put on a spectacular performance this weekend but fell just short in the finals versus the Oakville A's. The Red Sox rolled into the finals of the tournament with 4 straight victories, out scoring the opposition 97 - 12. The most impressive victory was a real "gut check" come from behind victory on Day 1 of the tournament. In their third game of the day, and following a short half-hour break in between games, Barrie went up against a determined Brampton squad who were in a must win situation. In their first at-bats Brampton posted 7 runs and put on an amazing hitting display spraying hits deep into (and well past) the outfield before the boys even got to pick up a bat. The boys picked themselves up and eventually roared back for the victory. In finals the team played in what was by far the best game of the year to watch. Both teams made stunning defensive plays and kept the game close until Oakville managed to put 3 runs across in the 4th inning. In the end, Oakville downed Barrie 5-1 but the boys showed a level of play and execution that bodes well for the future. Once again the boys showed they can play with anyone in the province.
