Sharks Long Year Continues as They Forfeit to Senators

Posted by N Frese on Jun 29 2008 at 05:00PM PDT

The Sewell Sharks not only went to the wrong field (Deptford High School) on Sunday morning, but they went there with only seven players. And when the hearty seven showed back up at Washington Township High School, all they could get for their efforts was a forfeit, a loss that dropped them to 0-12 and moved the Senators up to 9-2-1 on the 2008 season.

The un-timely non-game means the Nats will have to live with a full three-week wait to get between the lines again, as they next face the Moorestown Marlins for a July 13 doubleheader. at Washington Lake Park, an 8:30 AM start time.

Meanwhile, the Nats sit firmly atop the Division, with nearest competitors the Marlins and Patriots saddled with four losses each. Things could be much clearer after the 13th, however. A sweep by the Senators would virtually clinch first place in the division, as they would then hold the tie-breaker (head-to-head) advantage over both the Patriots and Marlins. The only way the Patriots could overtake the Nats would be to win out and hope the Nats drop both of their remaining two games (Astros at home, Red Sox at Bob Meyer Field).

Chris Lawrence and Don Davis are expected to have the starting nods on July 13 as the Senators go for the gold.
