Bats Come Alive Just Enough to Support Pitching Staff

The Washington Township Senators put together just enough offense to escape steamy Gilder Field with a 5-2 decision over the tough Bordentown Patriots. Ken Bevenour struck the big blow, a two-run double in the seventh to break open a 2-1 pitcher's duel. Dave Koerner notched the save and also had two hits. Joe Collins also contributed two singles and a big RBI.

John DiPietro did a nice job in gutting out five innings, and Angel Rivera tossed three good innings in relief of the Senator ace. And Don Davis and Dan Laudisio combined for a highlight-film out at the plate in the first when Davis uncorked a laser to nail a runner at the plate. Frank Izzi continued his impressive run of steals, swiping two bags and creating some havoc on the base paths. Dan Barbara was on base in all three trips, and drove in the first run back in the fourth.

Next week the Senators travel out to Cherry Hill West for another litmus test against the Tabernacle Tigers. Chris Lawrence is expected to get the baseball for this one.
