Senators Bats Stay Silent, Astros Win 5-4 Heartbreaker

Posted by N Frese on May 18 2008 at 05:00PM PDT

The Senators bats took an early vacation, as they could manage just four hits in dropping a 5-4 decision to the Delco Astros at Buggy Field -- the scene of some prior disasters.

The Nats wasted nice pitching performances by Don Davis and John DiPieto. Both hurlers pitched well enough to win, and they might have done just that but for a 9th inning error that ended the game. But it was the offense (or lack thereof) that has to take it on the chin for this one.

The Astros out-hit the Sens 13-4, and the Senators were unable to do much with John Ditzler or Geoff Dreyer. Dreyer actually tossed four no-hit innings at the Senators to pick up the win.

The Nats take a much-welcomed week off for Memorial Day, and then try to locate the bats on June 1 back home against the Marlton Red Sox.
