Vikings Open Season with a Win!

Posted by Larry Murphy at Dec 2, 2012 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

The Vikings opened their regular season with a 9 - 6 win against Avon at North Olmsted on Saturday night!

After a disappointing first goal scored by Avon, the Vikings came back to tie the game mid-way through the first period with a beautiful backhanded goal scored by Spencer Mackert on an assist from Ben Bishop.  Avon scored again 40 seconds later, but the Vikings scored two goals in rapid succession - the first by Dylan Oney who found the back of the next on a quick wrister and the second by Zach Lawson, both assisted by Brad Harcourt.

Avon answered with two goals in the last minute of the first period and one just a minute and a half into the second, but the rest of the game belonged to Hoover.   Harcourt's goal on an assist from Lawson early in the second started a string of North Canton goals, with sophomores Lawson and Oney each earning hattricks in the contest, and Harcourt, Lawson and Oney earning 5, 6 and 5 points respectively before the final horn.  Defensemen John Derosiers and Ben Bishop each earned points for an assist apiece in the second and third periods.

Next up for the Vikings is Saturday at home at 3:40 pm at Center Ice against Parma. Come out and support the team!

The team competes this weekend in the Parma Thanksgiving Tournament, with the first game at 12:45 pm against Shaker at Ries Arena in Parma.
