Spring 2002 Highlights

Posted by Britton Scheibe on Jun 22 2002 at 05:00PM PDT
There were some high points for the San Diego Knights in the Spring 2002 Season. Starting Pitcher Brian Mazone pitched well enough to sign with the Joliet Jackhammers of the Northern League, where he has pitched very well. Aaron Mirandon contributed also on the mound with a 1.89 ERA. First year pitcher Grant Maquet showed signs of improvement, and J.R. Scheibe and Sean Bernhard looked good in their brief appearances with the Knights. Offensively the team was paced by Shortstop Sean Moran who hit a cool .508. He also chipped in 4 dingers, but the club leader in that category was John Wagner with 5. Scott Saalfeld had an astounding 25 RBI in 14 games, which computes to 289 RBI over a 162 game schedule. Along with Moran, Wagner, and Saalfeld; Dave Fritsch, Aaron Kinard, Butch Whiting, and Britton Scheibe all hit over .300 contributing to a .338 team batting average for the season. And while Jason Cox, and Brad Sabol hit just below .300, each contributed all season long offensively and defensively. Mario Palacios was voted most improved player, with signs of progress towards the end of the season. With the addition of a few old faces and a few new ones for the Summer, the Knights will pick up right where they left off, on top of the league offensively. Follow all the Knights action right here, as this next season will be one you won't want to miss.
