GIRLS VARSITY BASKETBALL · DEC 6 Girls Basketball Split the Weekend

@ Franklin County

The Girls Basketball Team traveled to Franklin County on Friday night for a non conference showdown with the Wildcats. The Golden Bears used a 12-5 second quarter to build a 21-14 halftime lead. The Golden Bears fought off the home Wildcats in the second half to pick up a 36-32 win to move to 5-3 on the year. Senior Madison Phares led the way for the Golden Bears with 15 points. Senior Madison Bassett scored 6, Kylee Edwards scored 5, Abby Brenner 4, and Cheyenne Eads had 2 points. Madison Phares was awarded the “Game Changer” award for the Golden Bears. The JV team was defeated for the first time this year to move to 6-1.

@ Batesville

The Girls Basketball Team was back on the road Saturday morning to face Batesville. Batesville used a 12-4 first quarter to jump on the Golden Bears coming off a game on Friday night. The Bears used a great second quarter to trail 14-11 at the half. Again Batesville came out of the halftime locker room ready to play and build a 24-15 lead heading into the final quarter. Shelbyville again came back to tie the game at 26 all with just over five minutes left. Batesville used a 7-2 run to take a 33-28 lead with 2:43 to play. The Golden Bears could never get any closer with the final being 41-32 Batesville. Shelbyville moves to 5-4 on the year. Kylee Edwards led the way with 19 points. Ava Wilson had 9, Madison Bassett had 6, and Madison Phares rounded out the scoring for Shelbyville with 1 point. The JV team bounced back to pick up a win to move to 7-1 on the year. Both teams will travel to New Palestine on Tuesday with basketball starting at 6 pm.
