2000-01 Lady Bears Preseason Outlook 10/15

Posted by William Haehl on Oct 17 2000 at 08:48AM PDT
The Shelbyville Lady Bears under the tutelage of third year coach John Fair will return eight letter winners from last year’s 13-8 season. Key strengths will be defense, depth, quickness, and shooting. The Bears will be lead by Sara Laird (5’8” Sr., 13.1 ppg.) and Jenni Ross (5’8” Sr. 6.5 ppg.). Juniors who will see a lot of playing time will be Susan Kolls (5’7” 4.6 ppg.), and Ashley Coy (5’7” 3.2 ppg.). Other players who add depth to the defense include lightening quick Megan Eiler (5’5” Jr. 1.9 ppg.), Ashley Matney (5’7” Jr. 2 ppg.) and Allison Berger (5’6” So). A key to the Bears will be the development of sophomore center Katie Douglas (6’0” 4.1 ppg.). Newcomers, twin freshman guards, Gretchen Haehl (5’4”) and Gwen Haehl (5’8”) will add a terrific punch for the Bears. Look for Gretchen to be the starting point guard and Gwen to be fighting to be a starter. Also, look for junior Ann Griffey (6’0”) and freshman Haley Wise (5’11”) to contribute. Shelbyville will continue to run, press, and play physical defense. Added to the mix will be that this version of the Golden Bears appear to be able to shoot.
