Crothers Lower Gym Is Back!!!

Posted by MMBL at Oct 15, 2017 6:08PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

The school board has notified us that they have managed to save the floor in the lower gym at Crothers.
It will be open for usage this week so all the hoops we had to jump through re Mondays etc are gone. Our regular gym times are back . The schedule will be posted on the website by Tuesday evening.

The loss of Berczy on Mondays for Masters pick up is still in effect and I will keep you posted when I hear otherwise.

Thanks for all your patience.

BIG PROBLEMS WITH THE GYMS

Posted by MMBL at Oct 6, 2017 7:49PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

In the past week, we have developed some major problems with our gym permits

Originally:
A full schedule for all divisions was drawn up with the only glitches being October 4 and February 14 at both Crothers gyms being cancelled. Okay, we scheduled around it.

First Glitch:
The Crothers floor in the lower gym was accidentally flooded by the sprinkler system. They are presently drying the floor and hoping it will flatten out and be saved. If it is saved, we could get it back by early November…….very unlikely. More likely is that they will have to replace the floor in which case, the earliest we would get it back is January.

Our choices at this point are to either play shortened games till after Christmas, get more gym time or shrink the league. Playing a shortened game here or there is one thing but till after Christmas is not acceptable nor is shrinking the league. More gym time would be the best solution but near impossible. The third gym at Crothers has already been designated to another permit that was also affected but on a different night….it was their only permit and we have many so the board decided to share the pain. They offered us an elementary school but there gyms are so small that ten men could not play on them at the same time. No other gyms available. There are a couple of church gyms but way to expensive for that many nights.

The solution decided on was to use our pick-up ball gyms on Mondays at Unionville High School ( UHS ) which has a two hour permit and William Berczy Public School, one of the few public schools with a full sized gym, which has a two and a quarter hour permit. In this way, we could have two games at Berczy and one at UHS on Monday evenings. So, whichever team was scheduled for the lower gym would play on a Monday for now. I confirmed this with the refs and scorekeepers and that was the plan.

Second Glitch
Yesterday, I was informed that the floor at Berczy was in the process of being replaced! #$&
I drove right over to the school and sure enough, the floor was gone. I spoke with the vice principal there and he said that they were replacing it with a concrete floor covered in a special rubber. It was suppose to be done by September 1 but they are having humidity problems and have to wait till the conditions are just right. Apparently the concrete can fail otherwise. They are hoping to have it ready by mid October. Of course, I am skeptical. I then drove over to the Pan Am Centre to check them out but all evening spots are full till the spring.

Our Newest Solution
Warren checked the town and the only spot they have open is the Angus Glen Community Centre on Wednesdays at 7:00 pm…we took it.
So the way it will work for now is that all those games scheduled for Crothers lower gym will be shifted to other locations.
Until we get Berczy back we will play the 7:00 pm game at the Angus Glen Community Centre on Wednesdays while the later two games will be played on Mondays at UHS. Since we only have two hours at UHS the games will have to be shortened a little.
After we get Berczy back, hopefully in mid November, we will play all three of the displaced games on Monday nights until we get the lower gym back. Since Berczy’s permit is a little longer, we can play regular length games on Mondays again.
Check the posted schedule for day, time and locations.
We’ll get through this.

Draft Night and Cancellations

Posted by MMBL at Sep 30, 2017 9:33AM PDT

Draft Night is this Monday at Jakes on Main, starting at 7:30 pm. Come out and start the season properly n
by sharing a drink and nibbles with your new teammates! Your first drink and the food is on us!

Due to school activities, we’ve lost Crothers for the first week as well as on February 14th. On these evenings, one division will have to sit out while the other two divisions will play shortened games. On October 4th, Champions will sit out while on February 14th, Elite will sit out . If there are any future cancellations, it will be Masters that will be affected. With the cancellations being at Crothers, only Masters is able to squeeze in enough games at Bur Oak to keep things on track .
Please check the website for the altered start times on these dates.

The rules for these shortened games in Elite and Champions are:
1) 45 minute game
2) no halftime, no stoptime, no overtime
3) one time out per team
4) If a game starts late, that time is taken off the game time.

The rules for these shortened games in Masters( since your at Bur Oak) are:
1) 38 minute game
2) no halftime, no stoptime, no overtime
3) one time out per team
4) If a game starts late, that time is taken off the game time.

CAPTAINS: PLEASE FILL OUT YOUR GAME SHEETS WHILE THE GAME BEFORE YOU IS STILL IN PROGRESS. THIS WILL LESSEN THE CHANCE OF YOUR GAME BEING SHORTENED

Pick-up ball at UHS starts this Monday, September 25 and runs from 8:30 to 10:30 pm. Only registered MMBL players are permitted to play.
