DIG PINK Was a Huge Success

On October 6th, the JV and Varsity Volleyball teams played Lutheran North in the annual Dig Pink breast cancer awareness game. The JV girls fought hard, but fell short 1-2 in a close match. The Varsity girls came out sharp and never let up, defeating Lutheran North in 3 straight games to sweep the match.

For this year’s Dig Pink game, the Vikings played in celebration of Varsity volleyball mom and cancer survivor, Angela Boardman. In our efforts to create awareness for men and women to get routine check-ups and to help research teams find a cure for cancer, the Vikings raised a total of $2,100. All proceeds from the Dig Pink event will go to Houston Methodist Oncology Research.

It was an awesome night in many different ways, and the Vikings would like to thank everyone who supported the event.

Varsity Volleyball Season Reflection

As our Varsity Volleyball 2015 comes to a close, I want to express to all of you my thoughts and feelings for this team. Winning is wonderful, we have all experienced it at some point, but I truly believe that there is so much more to team sports. A comradery amongst 12 girls playing together every day becomes so strong that lifelong friendships are made in just one season. Learning time management and accountability…these are so important as they grew into adulthood. Finally I hope our girls learn to be caring, mature teammates always showing good sportsmanship and poise on and off the court. Coaching at so many different levels I can confidently say I think I have seen and heard everything….every excuse, every blessing, every moment of joy, sorrow pain and elation. This team, this year, has provided me with all of these things. We have lived through so much laughter, so much sadness, frustration and disappointment. But with these girls, every moment of sadness and disappointment was followed with joy and laughter. They are so much fun, full of so much promise and life…that I have enjoyed every second on the court with them. Together we have learned so much about each other and ourselves on this journey through our season.
It has been a privilege, as always, to coach this team this season. Thanks for the memories.

On Friday, October 2nd, the entire Village School volleyball program will be traveling to watch one of their own, Lauren Fernandez-Miller, play for her new school. Last Spring, Lauren received an athletic scholarship to St. Thomas University to continue playing the sport she loves. Lauren was a student at The Village School her entire life. She has given countless hours back to The Village School by working volleyball camps, and she still shows up to support the program since she has graduated. As a freshman, Lauren is already a key contributor to the St. Thomas University volleyball team. She is top 10 in her conference in multiple statistical categories. St. Thomas University has had a great start to their season, and Lauren’s excellent play has played an important part in her team’s success.

This Friday will be a special moment for Coach Klausmeyer, the coaching staff, and the entire volleyball program. All of our current players have been positively impacted by Lauren. Some have had the pleasure of being her teammate. Some have had the pleasure of watching her play. Some have had the pleasure of being coached by her at camp. This Friday, when St. Thomas University takes on Our Lady of the Lake, the program will have the opportunity to cheer her on, and show our appreciation for who she is as a person, and appreciate her ability on the court.

Game time is set for Friday, October 2nd, at 6:00pm.

Go Lauren!
