Week In Review: Cougars take on 4A powers at Shadow Mountain then more big schools at Casa Grande

5 April at Scottsdale Shadow Mountain High School On April 5th, the Cougar boys & girls travel to Scottsdale to take on powerhouse Shadow Mountain and Flagstaff Coconino. Senior high jumper and defending region champion at that event Micah Kuiper jumped a career high 6 feet even to win the high jump. In the 100, freshman Adam Watkins ran well in the 100 & 200. He also long jumped 17'10". Thyse VanHofwegen and Ryan Fitzpatrick ran career bests in the 800. The Domoneek Staten in the 100, 100 hurdles & the 200. Megan VanHofwegen is returning to form in the 400 & 200. Senior Demitrius LaVant has risen to the top of the team throwers and made a mark in the 100. 7 April at Casa Grande Phoenix Christian's boys & girls track teams took on some of the state's best 3, 4 & 5A athletes at the Casa Grande invite on 7 April and again during a 5A metro meet at Alhambra on the 12th with good results. On the 7th at Casa Grande, Domineek Staten placed 3rd in the 100 metersin a showdown against top runners from host Casa Grande & Tucson. Senior Megan VanHofwegen placed 4th in the 200 and 5th in the 400 with season best times. The girls 4x100 was 6th overall. Kristen Shook and Ashley continued to improve in the distance events. Boys highlights included at 30 second drop in the time for the boys 4x800 squad of Thyse VanHofwegen, Nick Fitzpatrick, Naje Singleton and John Vermeer as they ran a time of 9:35. Micah Kuiper was 5th in the high jump. image
