Road to the Little League World Series

Posted by Chrstine McLean on Jul 04 2016 at 05:00PM PDT

At New Rochelle Little League our summer tournament teams are called District teams.

Participants in the spring season may be invited to represent New Rochelle in official New York State and National Little League tournaments. Teams may include a 9/10 year old team, a 10/11 year old team and a Major Division (12 and under) team. The age of the player on August 1 determines eligibility

NRLL has now launched a  13U division that is called the Intermediate division and plays on a 50-70 field (50 foot pitchers mound and 70 feet between bases).

The first round of the tournament is a District tournament.
Our district includes Little League organizations in lower Westchester County.  It is a double elimination (two loss) competition that is played within the district. There are 38 Little League districts in New York State.

The 38 district winners meet in a sectional tournament.  Our section includes Little League organizations in Westchester, Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan and Ulster counties.  It is a double elimination tournament hosted by a Little League within the section and takes place in mid-July.  There are four (4) Little League sections in New York State each with two divisions (either East-West or North-South) making for eight sectional winners.

The eight (8) sectional winners compete somewhere within New York State to crown a state champion.

The 9/10 year old state champion advances to a regional tournament.

The 10/11 year old tournament ends with a New York State champion.

The Major Division state champion then advances to a regional tournament whose winner participates in the
Little League World Series.

The Intermediate Division (50-70) state champion advances to a regional tournament whose winner advances to the Little league World Series.
