Info for New Players

Posted by Eric Cyker on Sep 26 2018 at 05:00PM PDT

Hi Everyone,

As we have done in the past few years, we’ll be organizing pre-season pick-up games during our league ice times at The Rink over the next few weeks.  Please use the link below to sign up to play.  We are currently opening signups only for the next two weeks.  Look for future e-mails when we open up more dates.

New players MUST attend at least one game.

You do not need to register with the league prior to signing up for these games, but we do trust that by playing in these games you intend to play in the league in the B/C division (please read A/B paragraph below).

The cost for all skaters is $10 per game, which MUST be paid at the rink on game night.  There is no fee for goalies.

If a game is full, please please please sign up for the wait list.  As we get closer to game day, we’ll shuffle openings between new and returning player slots to fill up any open slots.  We'll also add games if enough demand exists.

If you cannot make a game you signed up for, please cancel at least two days prior to game day.  No-shows will be removed from future signups.

USA Hockey registration is not required and no insurance is provided.

B/C Pre-Season Game Sign-Up

As players new to the league (or returning after several years off), we should tell you a little bit about the pre-season games.  First, this is not a try-out.

The game will be a typical pickup game.  No ref, no clock, no keeping score.  Teams will be set by jersey color.  Generally that means white vs not-white jerseys.  Bring both if you have them, but try to avoid powder blue, gray and light yellow.

The goals of the game are for us to get to know you and for you to meet some of the current players and see what the level of play is like in B/C.  We’ll be asking the returning players to help assess your skills, which will assist the board when we try to make balanced teams in a few weeks.  Just play and have fun and don’t worry about it.  Maybe we’ll surprise you with a skills drill.  Who knows.

So that we all know who you are, please get some white hockey tape, put a double strip on both the front and back of your helmet, and write your name with a broad marker.  Write what you want to be called.  If your name is William Jones but you go by Bill, then write Bill Jones (or at least Bill J).  If you want to be called Spike, that’s fine too.  Players without names on their helmets are returning players.  Talk to them about the league too.

IAHA A/B Division

For the past two seasons, we did not have enough A/B players to put together a formal league. Instead, we organized pick-up games for A/B players on Monday nights.  We are trying again to form a league this year, but are prepared to offer A/B pickup on either Sundays or Mondays. Advanced players may not play in the B/C division.  As a rule of thumb if you are (or were) good enough to play youth travel hockey, high school varsity, college club, or above, then you are probably an A/B player.  Not having played for 10 or 15 years does not mean you’re now a B/C player.  If you’re really unsure, let us know and plan on coming to one of the pre-season games.  Exceptions will be considered for players aged 50 or over to join B/C, regardless of their playing skills, provided they meet the character and attitude we expect in B/C.  We would like to make an informed decision on what type of program to offer. If you want to play A/B hockey this year, it is critical that you let us know of your interest by making a selection at the following web site:
