Late Surge Leads Scrappers To Victory

James Wyatt’s fifth-inning double brought home two runs to snap a tie game and lead the Scrappers to an 8-6 victory over the River Bandits on Saturday at Benevento Park. Wyatt also had a triple on the day and finished with four RBI.

The River Bandits kept the pressure on throughout the game. Charlie Considine’s first-inning double gave the team a 2-0 lead, and Pierce Burnham had an RBI two-bagger in the fourth that knotted things at 6-6. Asher Schulz had two hits for the River Bandits and Harry Agganis struck out seven batters in three innings of work.

A big fourth inning was crucial for the Scrappers. Glenn Mello, Nalo Benedict, Xander Villareal and Jacob Barros each had RBI in the four-run outburst. Brendan Gazda enjoyed a two-hit game.

Jakob Hulett took the win. He fired three innings of solid ball, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out six.

Scrappers Put Squeeze On The Lugnuts

The Lugnuts jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead – thanks to a big first inning led by Scotty Costello – but the Scrappers rebounded to claim a 13-6 victory on Tuesday at Benevento Park.

They Scrappers took the lead for good by scoring five second-inning runs, all with two outs. Brendan Gazda, Jakob Hulett, and Glenn Mello had consecutive RBI hits, and James Wyatt then pushed home two more runs with his sharp single to the outfield. It all came as part of a nine-hit attack for the victors.

Xander Villareal and Kian Grabar handled the pitching duties for the Scrappers, with Grabar throwing 2.2 innings of solid ball to close out the game.

Scrappers Score Late To Upend Thunder

Glenn Mello’s line-drive single to center field plated the winning run, giving the Scrappers a 7-6 walk-off decision over the Thunder in a midseason showdown at Benevento Park.

Jakob Hulett earned the win by pitching a shutout inning in the sixth, recording two strikeouts. Nalo Benedict got the start and threw four effective innings before exiting with a 6-2 lead. The Scrappers had built an early four-run lead, thanks to a five-run second inning, but the Thunder knotted things at 6-6 with four runs of their own in the fifth.

The Scrappers tallied eight hits on the day, with Mello, Hulett, Benedict, and Brendan Gazda each collecting two on the day.

Nolan Pierce and Cole Bakr managed multiple hits for Thunder as part of their nine-hit attack.

The result put both teams at 7-1 on the spring, tied atop the Minors standings.

Red Wings Rule Under The Lights

Wyatt Ares starred at the mound and the plate to lift the Red Wings past the Iron Birds, 7-6, Saturday night at Benevento Park.

Ares started on the mound and struck out the side in each of the first two innings, then had a hit as part of a five-run uprising in the third frame. Jack Connolly and Chris Libby also had hits during the rally.

In the field, Brady Cullen and Nathan Barstow turned in web gems to thwart Iron Birds rallies.

The win improves the Red Wings to 4-4 on the season, good for third place in the NRLL Minors.

Red Wings 7, Lugnuts 3

On a beautiful Saturday afternoon at Benevento Park, the Red Wings upended the hard-swinging Lugnuts, 7-3. Mark Sorrenti and Bryce Sharp racked up two hits each for the victors, including a big double from Sharp. Charlie Sarno also contributed with a sacrifice to knock in Sorrenti, while Bruce McLaren and Charlie Bebchick showed off their arms with strong pitching to begin and end the game, respectively
