IAHA Milestone

Posted by Eric Cyker at Oct 24, 2014 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

We have our first grand-parent/grand-child pair in the league this year. The league began as the city hockey league around 1978 and expanded to the current Ithaca Adult Hockey Association in 1999.  We’ve had father/son, father/daughter, mother/son, husband/wife, brothers, and brother/sister, but we believe this is the first grandfather/grandson pair.

Kagan Gehring (Grandson) and Tom Parker (The Grampa).
Both got their first pair of skates and both joined initiation hockey and began learning to skate in the same year: 2004… Kagan keeps getting better. Tom keeps getting older. image
If you are interested in playing in either A/B or B/C, contact us at iaha@compcenter.com

Subs

Posted by Eric Cyker at Sep 22, 2014 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

If you are interested in playing as a sub in our league,  we ask that you contact someone you know who is playing and check whether his/her team is interested in having you sub for them.  The Board does not assign substitute players to teams.  If the team wants to have you play for them, the captain of the team will make a request to the Board to add you to the roster.  Once approved, you will be required to submit a registration form, a USA Hockey confirmation, and payment of the $90 sub fee prior to being allowed to play. Subs are allowed to play up to eight games.

If you do not know anyone in the league, e-mail info@ithacaadulthockey.com detailing your hockey experience.  We will e-mail the captains of the appropriate division to check whether anyone is looking to add a sub to their roster.  Each team is limited to three subs on their roster.

Welcome back to the IAHA.

♦Registrations are due in our hands by Friday, October 3.  Mailing the forms is strongly preferred.  Allow time for it to be delivered before Oct 3rd.   If you must drop it off at Cass or The Rink, make sure it is labeled IAHA or Adult Hockey, not IYHA.  Forms cannot be dropped off at the rinks after Oct 3rd.  After that date, contact us to arrange to drop off your registration materials.·

♦If you want to play with someone, you must use the  “We want to play together” form and send everything in one envelope.   Two player pairs for A/B, up to three for B/C.  A/B players do not need to use this form unless they are leaving their team.·

♦Players are assigned first-come, first served.  If roster spots fill up, you may get shut out even if your application is received before the deadline.  Last year we were full.  Check the website for updates.·

Please help us find sponsors.  Contact Jon Parmenter at jwp35@cornell.edu if you know someone interested in sponsoring.

♦♦♦And finally, here is the long version.  We are highlighting a few important points in this letter.  Please read the registration forms carefully for complete details.

Registration

Registration forms must be received no later than Friday, October 3rd.  Note this is a due date, not a postmark date.  Be sure to return the Registration form, the USA Hockey registration confirmation and your payment.  Additional copies of the forms will be available at Cass and The Rink.  Players wishing to play together (two for A/B, up to three for B/C) must use the “we want to play together” form.  By doing this, you can expect to be placed on the same team.

USA Hockey

You must register directly with USA Hockey at http://usahockeyregistration.com.  The cost is $43 and must be paid with a credit card.  When finished, print the USA Hockey registration confirmation and attach it to your IAHA registration form.  We need to scan the bar code. Do not e-mail the confirmation to us

Teams

For the A/B Division, initial team assignments will be based on last season's rosters.  If the number of teams in the division changes from last season, some players may be moved between teams.  All new players will be assigned to roster openings to attempt to correct the competitive balance of the teams.  If you recruit someone to play and you want to play with or split with him/her, you may do so by registering using the “We want to play together” form.  If you do that, you will not be included on your last year’s team’s initial roster and the two of you will be assigned to a team by the Board.  Please do recruit though, as we need new players to maintain a healthy league.

Here are some guidelines we will use for a few special situations.  Players returning to the league after no more than a one season absence will be assigned to their previous team.  Players who played part time last season (sub or split) who register to play full time this season may be assigned to the team they played for last year if player has had a long term relationship with that team.  Obviously, we cannot anticipate every situation that may arise.  Our intent is to allow full time players and long time established players to stay together, but a part time player new to the team last season would not be awarded that privilege.  We will review individual cases as needed.

For the B/C Division, all players and the goalies will be assigned to teams in a randomized fashion.  We believe it is in the best interest of the league, over the long term, to avoid having the same rosters year after year.  This makes it simpler to balance teams and reduces the barriers for new players to enter the league.

Subs

There is a flat fee of $75 to register as a sub.  There will be no additional per game fees.

Captains must obtain approval from the Board prior to registering a sub.  After approval is received, the sub must submit an IAHA registration form, a USA Hockey registration confirmation, and payment of the $75.  Approval and all material must be in place before a sub can play.  Captains, do not wait until the day of the game to ask for a sub to be approved.  Teams are limited to three subs, and subs are not allowed to play in playoff games.

Rule Changes

There are no USA Hockey rule changes for this season.  The IAHA rule regarding replacing injured players was changed mid-season last year.  See rule 9.

Disciplinary Policy

The IAHA Disciplinary Policy is being distributed with registration materials as well as being posted on the Web Site.  There are no changes from last season.  We continue to discourage fighting and other inappropriate behavior in our adult league.  If you are involved in a fight, you should expect to sit a minimum of five games (one game USA Hockey mandatory suspension plus four game IAHA suspension).  The message is DON'T FIGHT!!  Defending yourself does not require swinging back.  Cover up and skate away.

Team/League Sponsorships

Each season we look for local businesses to sponsor teams.  The fee for sponsorship this season is $350 minimum and is used to (almost) purchase jerseys.  Any amount paid above the minimum is very much appreciated and will be used to reduce player fees the following season.  Most businesses can treat this cost as an advertising expense.  Sponsorships can be split between two businesses if requested.  Team sponsorships are awarded on a first-come first-served basis.  As the association receives payment, the sponsorship is assigned.  The best way to guarantee renewal or award of a sponsorship is for the business to pay the fee.  Please help us to secure sponsors by contacting anyone you know who would be in a position to help.  For their support, the business name and logo will appear on the team jerseys, and the name will appear in all posting of the league standings and results.  We will also include sponsors' logos and Web links on our Web Site, if requested.

Sign up early..see you on the ice.

IAHA Board
