Whitmore Fence Wins B/C Ambis Cup
Whitmore Fence scored in each period on their way to a 4-1 victory over runner-up CRC Bandits in the third and final game of the championship series. The CRC Bandits scored early, just five minutes into the game, on a power play goal to take a 1-0 lead, which they held for most of the first period. Whitmore Fence knotted the score at 1 apiece on a rush up the ice to beat the clock, scoring with just five seconds remaining in the period.
The momentum generated by the buzzer beating goal carried over to the second period for Whitmore Fence, as they scored the eventual game winner just 1:48 into the period. Another goal was scored midway through the period to give Whitmore a 3-1 lead, which they carried for much of the remainder of the game.
With just under four and a half minutes remaining in the game, Whitmore Fence tallied a short-handed goal to put the game out of reach.
The two teams split the first two games of the series in very tight games. Whitmore Fence won the first game 1-0. CRC Bandits evened the series, forcing the deciding third game, with an exciting 3-2 overtime victory in game 2.
Whitmore finished the regular season in second place in the standings (16-9-1), while CRC Bandits was fourth. Both teams were very strong throughout the playoffs, gaining spots in the championship series.
