13U Hustlers Downed by MMU

Posted by Wayne Main on May 31 2017 at 05:00PM PDT

The 13U Frederick Hustlers traditionally take the long Memorial Day weekend off to recharge and spend time with their families. By the look of their play Wednesday evening at Walkersville High School, they forgot to plug in their batteries. The young Hustlers continued their Jekyll and Hyde season with an uninspired 7-2 loss to a well-coached MMU squad. MMU turned a 1-1 game into a rout in the third when they scored six runs on six hits – three for extra bases. “Nick (DeLisi) was up in the zone and couldn’t throw an off-speed pitch for a strike but credit the MMU hitters – they took advantage,” said Coach Main. Marshall Mott tossed three innings of scoreless baseball for the Hustlers with four strikeouts. Offensively, the Hustlers never got anything going. The Hustlers only accounted for three hits and left the bases loaded on two occasions. Brandon Bradshaw, Matt Cunningham and Nick DeLisi each had a single. Tyler Prather and Gabe Torres continued to swing hot bats but had nothing to show as both had multiple line drives that found MMU fielders. Matt Kulikowski, Brendan Yegesh and Jack Surdez all threw well for MMU.

The Hustlers are back in action on Sunday at Yellow Springs.  The Hustlers play the Rawlings High Heat at noon and the Lake Shore GraySox at 4:00pm.
