Streak Reaches Ten before Hustlers Stumble

Posted by Wayne Main on Jun 19 2016 at 05:00PM PDT

The Frederick Hustlers traveled down I270 Saturday night to beautiful Cabin John Park for a doubleheader against Bethesda Chevy-Chase. The black and gold ran their win streak to ten straight in the opener with a 5-1 win before seeing it snapped in the nightcap by a score of 4-0.

Nick DeLisi tossed four shutout innings in game one; DeLisi was magnificent allowing one BCC hit and fanning two. Brandon Bradshaw closed things out with two frames of solid relief. Meanwhile, the Hustler bats go going in the first as JT Sachar walked and scored on a Tyler Prather double. Bradshaw followed Prather with a big triple to give the Hustlers a quick 2-0 lead. The Hustlers then turned to small ball to pick up a run in the 3rd and two more in the fifth. Prather led the way with two doubles, while Gabe Torres doubled, Matt Cunningham tripled, and Andrew McElwain singled.

Game two was a thriller even though the Hustlers came out on the wrong side. The game was a classic pitching duel as the Hustler’s Luke Schlimm and BCC’s Ethan Engel locked horns for six scoreless innings. BCC’s Engel was superb as he only allowed a JT Sachar single and Schlimm was equally impressive as he only allowed two BCC hits. The crafty, carefree lefthander struck out five and only walked two in giving his team a chance. Dustin Isanogle made a beautiful running grab in the bottom of the sixth on what looked like a certain extra base hit to send the game into extras. Two walks and an untimely error sandwiched between two scratch hits in the 7th made for a long ride back to Frederick for the Hustler faithful.

The Hustlers are back in action Thursday evening for their first game in the New Era Cap Classic in Pittsburgh, PA.
