Cool Breeze Invitational
Held on Friday at the Brookside Country Club next to the Rose Bowl. The County’s individual girls were really eating up the spotlight on Friday night as the County placed three in the top 6 overall at this huge early season invitational. Colony’s Amber Rios was the outright winner edging just under 17:00. Chino Hills’ Jacqueline Duarte finished 3rd, just 2 seconds behind Rios, while Chino’s Mia Chavez finished 6th. With over 90 schools competing, three teams from the County placed in the top 10, led by Yucaipa in 6th place and Chino Hills not far behind in 8th. Ayala was 9th but there was a large point gap between 8th and 9th. Impact freshman made the difference Yucaipa and Chino Hills each picked up one, as did Barstow with a 16th place finish from Angelina Vasquez. The boys didn’t have anyone crack the top 25, but there are some solid pack teams with Yucaipa, Ayala, and Rancho Cucamonga leading the way.

Rosemead Invitational
Looks like the results are good to go finally. If anyone thought the Redlands East Valley was over-ranked or that they weren’t ready to roll, they were wrong. #3 D1 ranked Burbank and #2 D2 ranked Loyola got a taste of the Wildcats on Saturday in Rosemead. With over 1200 runners, REV stuck all five scorers in the top 20 with a clear front-runner with race winner Matthew Casillas and a tremendous supporting cast. Upland edged Baseline League rival Etiwanda again as Jeremiah Castellano finished ahead of the Etiwanda duo of Makeye Contreras and Adam Sorenson. On the girls side, a couple of upstart teams shined. Bloomington finished 5th with a solid top 3, while a surprising Chaffey squad, fresh off a league meet win this week, ran to a 6th place finish paced by Natalia Muro’s 7th place finish.
