World Autism Awareness Day April 2, 2009...Click HERE for more Info!

Posted by Carisa Perkins on Mar 30 2009 at 05:00PM PDT

Autism is currently the fastest-growing developmental disability in the world!  It affects people from all ethnicities, geographies and classes and is four times more likely to strike boys than girls.  In fact, with its rapid growth and the "spectrum" nature of this disability, it is very likely that soon everyone will personally know of someone who suffers from some form of Autism.

Autism is a complex neurobiological disorder that typically lasts throughout a person's lifetime. It is part of a group of disorders known as autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Today, 1 in 150 individuals is diagnosed with autism, making it more common than pediatric cancer, diabetes, and AIDS combined.  Autism impairs a person's ability to communicate and relate to others. It is also associated with rigid routines and repetitive behaviors, such as obsessively arranging objects or following very specific routines. Symptoms can range from very mild to quite severe.

Help support World Autism Awareness Day by becoming more aware of Autism yourself, encouraging those you know who are affected by Autism around you and by considering a donation to help fund Autism research.
