The Torrey Pines High softball team didn't have to do much defensive work during Tuesday's 6-0 Avocado League victory over Mission Hills. Not with the way Rachel Nasland was pitching. The freshman struck out 16 in a complete-game no-hitter, with a lone base runner who reached on a walk. While no hitters are relatively common in softball, the fact that just five Mission Hills hitters put the ball in play makes Nasland's effort a rare feat. The game was tied heading into the seventh inning, when the Falcons gave Nasland (11-2) support with a six-run outburst. Lauren Hynes paced the offense, going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. The Falcons improved to 21-4-2 overall and 7-0 in league. Missions Hills fell to 15-9-1 and 3-4. |
