  State softball honors
Leading your school to four straight section Division II softball championships has its rewards. Mt. Carmel’s Alix Johnson and Kellie Fox have been named All-State first-team by Cal-Hi Sports.

Johnson, an Arizona State-bound outfielder who was selected the San Diego Section Player of the Year, batted .504 with 27 RBI and four home runs.

The two players now will be going head-to-head in the Pac-10 as Fox, a slick-fielding shortstop, signed with UCLA after batting .454 with 38 RBI and seven home runs.

Senior pitchers Jenny Lahitte of Granite Hills, Laura Winter of Rancho Bernardo and Naomi Amu of El Camino were chosen for the second team. Torrey Pines infielder Kristen Filicia and Vista catcher Victoria Jones were third-team picks.

Broken down by enrollment size, University City pitcher Amanda Hansen and Steele Canyon multipurpose player Lorena Klopp were medium-school choices. Christian pitcher Ricki Gentry and Mater Dei Catholic hurler Wendy Tamayo were named to the small-school team.

Picked to the all-underclass team were Scripps Ranch junior catcher Maggie Sevilla, Bonita Vista sophomore pitcher Jennifer Hartman and Mt. Carmel junior pitcher Bree Williams.
