Both starting pitchers --- El Camino senior Naomi Amu and Torrey Pines freshman Rachel Nasland -- took one-hit shutouts into the eighth inning, when both teams mounted threats. Torrey Pines (26-7-2) reached Amu (15-3) for two singles in the top of the eighth, but she escaped the jam by inducing a groundout, recording a strikeout and picking off a runner. Nasland (14-3) surrendered a single to Kliebenstein in the bottom of the inning, watched her advance to second on a walk then allowed Rippy's one-out RBI single to win the game for El Camino (22-8-1). "It was the eighth inning, and as the game went on I did get tired," said Nasland, who struck out 11 and allowed two of her three hits to Rippy. "I just think they came out with more energy in the eighth inning. We had just gotten out when we were batting, which was a bummer." |
