The Fairborn Fury and South Dayton Slammers met for the first time ever in a DH at Bellbrook HS Sunday April 29th. The Slammers sent Micah Wilson to the mound and the Fury countered with Joey Everhart. The score remained scoreless until the visiting Slammers were able to score 5 runs in the top of the second. Justin Dunlap reached on an error, stole second and came home on a Jake Burke single. Back to back singles by Wilson and TJ Ray loaded the bases. Everhart was able to get two short fly outs but a Deane Grandfield single scored Burke. Jason Jamerson followed with a two run single and Matt Owens finished out the scoring in the inning by singling in Grandfield for the 5-0 lead. Wilson helped his own cause by hitting his first home run of the year in the third inning for the 6-0 lead. In the fifth, the Slammers scored twice on sacrifice flies by Rick Anderson and Wilson. In the sixth, PJ Dixon led off the inning with a single, Kevin Ashworth walked and Grandfield singled to load the bases. Jamerson stepped up and doubled to deep center to plate all three runners for the 11-0 lead. The Slammers rounded out the scoring in the seventh as Burke doubled, moved to third on a Dunlap single and came home on a Dixon sacrifice fly for the 12-0 lead. Wilson's pitching line: 4IP, 3H, 1BB, 6 K for his second win. Curtis Carson made his Slammers debut a good one: 3IP, 3H, 5K.
The Slammers sent out Sean Casey for game two looking for the sweep. Sean didn't disappoint as he went all six innings, allowing 5 hits, one run, 5 BB and 10 K's for his second win on the season. The offense put up 16 runs on 17 hits led by Ashworth going 4-4 one RBI, Anderson 3-4 one 2B 5 RBI, Wilson 2-4 with second HR 4 RBI, Mason Rose 1-1 RBI and Carson ending game in sixth inning in first ever Slammers at bat with a 2 run double. The two wins improve the Slammers record to 4-0 with a showdown with the Rangers next Sunday in Xenia.
