Marlins roll over D'Backs to advance to Championship game

Posted by Tim Simi on Jun 15 2009 at 05:00PM PDT

The Marlins put together their best all around team effort of the season to defeat the Diamondbacks 9-0 and move on the the HLL Majors Championship game.

Offensively, everything went right for the Marlins right from the start.  The Big Fish put five runs on the board in the first, two in the second and one each in the third and fourth innings.

Defensively, the Marlins nailed three D'Backs at the plate and picked off a runner on second from catcher to SS.  They were spectacular and dominant the entire game flashing the leather and pegging out D'Backs.

Highlights:

Pitchers Drew Johnson, Andrew Devine and Chris Satterfield were simply 'magical' allowing NO RUNS and only 2 hits!

Mike Messier blocked three runners from scoring and layed down the tags at the plate.

Brendon (get out of my way, I'm running) Wolfe had two INSIDE THE PARK home runs and a double, 5 RBI's and scored three times.  He later sang, danced and played trumpet before a sold out 7th grade band concert!  What a night...what a talent!!!

Drew Simi picked off a runner 'dancing' at second from home, had 3 hits, 1 RBI and scored once.  His coach even forced him to get caught stealing in the second (who is that guy??).

Andrew Devine had a single, and 2 walks on three trips to the plate and scored twice.

All in all, it was a totally dominating performance as the Marlins prepared for the Championship game.

The Marlins will face the always challenging Orioles on Thursday night, June 18 on Egan Field at 5:45.

It promises to be the game of the season.

GO MARLINS!!!!
