WILCATS RIDE MOMENTUM INTO PLAYOFFS

Posted by Ryan Faber at Oct 12, 2008 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

On Sunday the Wildcats notched their second win during the final game of the regular season. In the first half neither team could get their offense going as both defenses held strong. Going into half time the score was 0-0.  Starting the third quarter the offense came alive behind a strong blocking effort by our offensive line. Tyler Kopcick started piling up yardage on the ground behind lead blocks by James Corey and Nick Zeggert and punched one in about half way through the third quater. Being down 7-0 the Gladiators tried to turn to the passing game, but were very much unsuccessful in large part because of the pass coverage by Nate and Tyler Kopcick, Ryan Faber, and Devin Costick. Because of good pass coverage and pressure on the opposing quaterback by Jeremy Yager, AJ Irish, Jake Atkinson, Liam Sullivan and Jake Thompson, the Wildcats were able to control the ball for much of the third. Early in the fourth the Wildcats marched down the field and scored on a 2 yard quaterback keeper. Now 14-0 the defense got into a groove and held strong. On a last ditch effort to drive for a touchdown the Gladiators reached inside the Wildcat 20. Trying to score before the game ended, and running out of time, the Gladiators went back to the pass. Jake Thompson read it perfectly and intercepted the last chance of the game. Good luck to the 'Cats this weekend against the Steelers.

Cats fight a good fight!!!!

Posted by Ryan Faber at Oct 4, 2008 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Today's game between the Wildcats and the Cowboys was another hard fought game. The Cowboys scored first on a long sustained march with Kareem Gale getting the bulk of the carries and Adam Korutz adding some tough yards.  On a great goaline stand by the Wildcats front six we were able to stop the extra point attempt. With the score 6-0 the Wildcats tried to put together a march of their own , handing the ball off to Tyler Kopcik for several big gains. All the tough running we could muster seemed to stall just past mid-field and we were forced to punt. On the next drive the Wilcats were ferocious in stopping the brutal Cowboys running attack. On third and long , though, the Cowboys pulled a trick out of their bag and on a bootleg scored the second touchdown of the half.  This time passing for a two point conversion and a 14-0 halftime lead.  Third quarter and the Wilcats in trouble after losing several key players to injury , it was time to dig deep. The Wildcats started with the ball and pounded Nick Zeggert up the middle and around the end until he broke one for a huge gain down to the one yard line. Two plays later Nick punnched it in from the three. Extra point good on a QB keeper by Jake Thompson and we had a game.  The Cowboys weren't done and scored what would be their last touchdown on the next drive as the third quarter was nearing the end. In the fourth quarter the Wilcats turned to their defense led by a strong tackling effort by Jake Atkinson and an interception by Devin Costick to mount one final try. Using what worked throughout the third quarter , Head Coach Tony Sobiech went back to pounding Nick Zeggert and once again was rewarded with Nick scoring again. The final score was 23-14 but was a hard fought fight for all who were in it!!  Great job to both teams on both sides of the ball......we'll see each other again I'm sure!!
