A day after falling by a pair of goals to the Notre Dame Hounds, the Swift Current Innovation Credit Union Wildcats were able to flip the script this afternoon.

Wildcats captain Baylee Kirwan lead the way offensively for Swift Current scoring twice and adding an assist in a 5-3 win over the Hounds in Wilcox.

Swift Current received two goals from their defence, as Jessica Bouffard and Kamryn Johnson each found the back of the net. Ava Metzger scored the other Wildcats’ goal, while Sadie Keller and Calli Arnold had two assists. Wildcats rookie Aurora Van Wormer picked up her first Saskatchewan Female U18 AAA Hockey League win in goal stopping 26 shots.

Hounds forward Emma Thomas was the only Notre Dame player to record a multi-point game as she scored once and had an assist. Ellie Gauvin and Olivia Leier scored the other Notre Dame goals.

The Hounds found the scoresheet quickly in the first period, pushing ahead 1-0 on Thomas’ league-leading sixth goal of the year. It wouldn’t take long for the Hounds to stretch their lead to 2-0 when Leier scored.

Swift Current would cut the deficit to 2-1 on a Kirwan powerplay marker about halfway through the second period. The Wildcats would make it 2-2 roughly two minutes later when Bouffard scored. The Hounds would reclaim a one-goal lead on a Gauvin powerplay goal making it 3-2.

Kirwan would tie the game at 3-3 37 seconds into the third frame. The game-winning goal would come from Wildcats forward Metzger with 7:31 remaining in the game to make it 4-3. Johnson would score an empty netter for Swift Current making it a 5-3.

Swift Current went 2-for-2 on the powerplay and the Hounds went 1-for-2 with the extra player advantage.

With the win, Swift Current moves back to the .500 mark at 2-2-0-1.

The Wildcats will be back in action December 5 when they travel to Weyburn to faceoff against the winless Gold Wings.
