TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE FOR SATURDAY APRIL 18 & SUNDAY APRIL 19:

TO BE ANNOUNCED

SIZZLIN’ SLAM V TOURNAMENT RULES:

Elk Grove Girls Softball current year Policies and Procedures will apply with the following exceptions: (Note: Game Rules may change prior to tournament, at the discretion of the Tournament Director.)

RULES & REGULATIONS:

a. SPORTSMANSHIP IS A MUST! Please treat each official and opposing team with respect! Anyone not displaying sportsmanship may be ask to leave the tournament and may cause their team to forfeit their game(s).

b. Teams entered must consist of only their own spring league players. No “pick-up” players from other teams will be allowed.

c. The tournament format will be planned as pool play games on Saturday, and single elimination games on Sunday. There may be a consolation round for teams eliminated, and the format may be changed depending upon the number of teams participating.

d. The team listed first or on the top of the bracket will occupy the third base dugout (unless a team

remains on the same field from the preceding game, then that team will stay in the dugout currently occupied).

e. Saturday Pool Games will have a 1 hour 15 minute time limit (1 hour 10 minute for 8-Under).
No new inning will start after time has expired, but the inning in which time expires will be completed.

Note: if time expires and the home team is ahead, they will not take their turn at bat in the bottom of the inning. The same will hold true if time expires and either team is a head by more than the number of runs allowed per inning, making it impossible for the other team to even tie. Pool play games may end in a tie.

f. Sunday elimination games: No new inning may begin after 1 hour 25 minutes (1 hour 20 minutes for 8-Under). Games cannot end in a tie; each game must have a winner. If at the end of regulation, or for the first full inning after time expires, and a tie exists, the International tiebreaker will be in effect (start with a runner on second base). No time limit for Championship games, but the run rules will be in effect. Teams will play a full 7-inning Championship game unless the mercy rule is in effect (8-Under play 6 innings).

g. Mercy Rule for all divisions:

     15 runs – after 3 innings

     10 runs – after 4 innings

     6 runs – after 5 innings·

h. Pitching Restrictions: 3 innings per game, per pitcher. Exception: The player who is listed as the pitcher at the time the game passes the time limit or goes into extra innings may continue to pitch past three innings without penalty, as long as she is not removed from the pitching position. All other pitchers are limited by the 3-inning rule, no matter the situation. If that pitcher is removed,
she may only return to pitch if she has not pitched her 3 innings. REMEMBER – 1 pitch thrown constitutes and inning pitched. There is no pitching limit restriction for the Championship games only.

i. After each game, the home team is responsible for turning in lineup sheets with the game score and pitchers innings pitched (to the Tournament Director Table).

j. THERE ARE NO RULE PROTESTS ALLOWED: The only two exceptions are:

  1) Ineligible player; and

  2) Excess number of innings pitched by a pitcher. These must be addressed to the Tournament Director or Field Director, and must be before the start of the next scheduled game.

k. Home team for pool-play games will be determined by a coin toss.

l. Home team for all elimination games will be the higher seeded team.

m. Home team will be the official scorekeeper (visiting team should regularly compare score-book to ensure an accurate score is reported).

n. Courtesy Runners are encouraged! When you have two outs, please use a courtesy runner for your catcher and/or pitcher if either is on base. The courtesy runner shall be an available player who most recently completed her turn at bat (and is farthest from batting again in the inning).

o. Game time is very limited and everyone wants to play as much as possible. Please be observant of the time, and no stalling in between innings.

p. Teams will earn 10 points for a win, 5 points for a tie, and 0 points for a loss.

q. Sunday ranking will be determined by point standings from pool-play. In the event of a point tie, the following tiebreakers will be used: 1) Head to Head, 2) Fewest Runs Allowed, 3) Coin Toss. If 3 or more teams are tied, the above procedure will be used until one team is eliminated or advanced, and then the remaining teams will repeat the procedure.

EQUIPMENT:

The League will provide a new ball for each game. We may ask for coaches to bring any new softballs that have not been used (they will be replaced if this happens). Please have them with you in the event one is needed.

TEAM RESPONSIBILITIES:

a. HOME TEAM: Home team is responsible for turning in the scores to the Tournament Director's table. You must provide the names and total innings pitched for each pitcher for that game. Home team is the official scorebook, in the event of any discrepancy.

b. DUGOUTS: Please make sure that all dugouts are completely cleaned out when leaving at the end of your game. Please be courteous to teams trying to exit.

c. FIELD PREP: Before each game, both teams are responsible for field prep. This includes, when needed, dragging the field, filling in any holes (pitcher mound, home plate, etc.), re-chalking batter’s box and field lines. Please work together!!! As Coaches and managers need time to prepare their team, this is a great opportunity for parents to help. Encourage family participation! On the last game of the day, please make sure all equipment is properly stored and boxes are locked.

d. Both teams are responsible for all field equipment, trash in and around dugouts, and scoreboard equipment (LCP). Please make sure all equipment is put away, and the field boxes are properly locked.

umpireUMPIRE ASSISTANCE:
Umpires have been assigned to all tournament games.  Due to the high number of games, there is a possibility of an umpire running late in coming from another field.  If this happens, we ask for your assistance in securing a volunteer to start the game on time.  Please notify the Umpire-in-Chief (Kevin Nicholson/916-479-2631) in the event of the umpire not being there at the scheduled start of the game.

All division winners will be posted here and announced at the closing ceremonies of each division.
