H.S. soccer roundups: Ithaca High defense keys shutout of EFA From Journal Staff Reports ITHACA - Arden Freedman had two goals and the Ithaca High boys' soccer team shut out Elmira Free Academy on Thursday, 3-0, in a Southern Tier Athletic Conference contest. Cody Pitzer had the other goal for the Little Red (9-1-2). Graham Nekut and Tim Kozen both contributed with one assist in the win. “We're becoming more consistent, which should happen at this point in the season,” Ithaca coach Terry Habecker said. “I'm glad to see this happening, especially on our defense, which hasn't allowed much action except for a penalty kick attempt. We are definitely looking forward to playoff time.” Goalkeeper Bobby McGinnis had 12 saves for Elmira Free Academy (7-4-2) in the loss.
EFA tops Southside 5-1 in boys soccer Star-Gazette October 3, 2006 Joe Burin tallied two goals and an assist for Elmira Free Academy, and Carl Learned had one goal and an assist as EFA defeated Southside 5-1 Monday in a boys soccer matchup. Jay Peckham scored Southside's only goal. "This game couldn't have been played with more respect for one another's teams, especially as cross-town rivals," EFA coach Derek Hamilton said. "As a team, we've made some tremendous strides," he said. "We won two last year, so now winning seven, hard work and dedication have really paid off."

Academy Downs Binghamton 3-1

•EFA 3, Binghamton 1: Tyler Sampsell converted a penalty kick to break a 1-1 tie with 25 minutes left to play, and Mike McGinnis iced the game with a goal from 25-yards out to lead Elmira Free Academy over Binghamton in a STAC game. Also for the Blue Devils, Kevyn Rustici had a goal, and Bobby McGinnis recorded five saves. "We needed this win," stated Hamilton. "After tying in the first game in which I thought we dominated, a convincing victory is what we were looking for." EFA improves to 6-4-1 on the season.
