Bobby McGinnis is the starting goalie for Fredonia State's men's soccer team.

The Elmira Free Academy graduate has a 9-6-0 record with a 1.39 goals-against average, .677 saves percentage and five shutouts.

McGinnis' teammate, Horseheads grad Rejean Archambeault, has started three of the eight games he's played in on defense this season.

ND Boys, Girls Seeded First for Soccer Sectionals

The Elmira Notre Dame boys and girls soccer teams joined the Elmira Free Academy boys in earning top seeds for the Section 4 playoffs, it was announced Thursday.

The Notre Dame boys (11-3-2 regular-season record) are the top seed in Class D and receive a first-round bye. The Crusaders host either No. 8 Edmeston (9-3-3) or No. 9 Milford (9-4-1) in a quarterfinal game at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 29.

Notre Dame's girls team (14-1) is seeded first in Class C and also received a first-round bye. ND is scheduled to host either No. 8 Bainbridge-Guilford (8-5-2) or No. 9 Newfield (6-8-1) in a quarterfinal at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 30. The Crusaders are the defending Class C champions and are ranked first in the state in Class C by the New York State Sportswriters Association.

Elmira Free Academy's boys team earned the top seed in Class A for the fifth straight year. The Blue Devils (7-6-1) have a bye into the semifinals, where they will host either No. 4 Owego Free Academy (8-6) or No. 5 Elmira Southside (0-11) at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 29.

Other pairings:

* Class AA boys: Horseheads (8-5-1) is seeded third and hosts sixth-seeded Binghamton (5-8-3) at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 26 in a quarterfinal.

No. 5 Corning (6-7-1) plays at No. 4 Union-Endicott (6-6-2) at 7 p.m. Oct. 26 in another quarterfinal.

* Class B boys: Watkins Glen (13-1-1) is seeded sixth and will host No. 11 Windsor (3-10) in a first-round game at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 26. The winner travels to No. 3 Lansing (14-1) for a quarterfinal at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 29.

* Class C boys: Spencer-Van Etten (10-3-1) is seeded third and has a bye into the quarterfinals, where it will host a 3:30 p.m. game Oct. 29 against No. 6 Greene (10-4) or No. 11 Sidney (5-9).

Odessa-Montour (5-8-2) is seeded 10th and plays at seventh-seeded Southern Cayuga (9-7) at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 26 in the opening round.

* Class AA girls: Horseheads (8-3) is seeded second and has a bye into the semifinals, where it will host either No. 3 Union-Endicott (7-4-1) or No. 6 Binghamton (2-12) at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 30.

Corning (6-4-1) is seeded fourth and hosts No. 5 Ithaca (5-7) at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 27 in a quarterfinal.

* Class A girls: Southside (6-8-1) has the No. 3 seed and plays at second-seeded Owego (11-1-1) in a semifinal game at 6 p.m. Oct. 30.

Fourth-seeded EFA (1-10-2) hosts fifth-seeded Johnston City (4-9) in a quarterfinal at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 27.

* Class B girls: Waverly (9-7) earned the No. 9 seed and plays at No. 8 Trumansburg at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 27 in a first-round game.

* Class C girls: Odessa-Montour (12-3) is seeded fourth and is scheduled to host No. 5 Greene (11-3-1) in a quarterfinal game at 3:30 p.m. Oct. 30.

Justin Munson and Alex Varkatzas combined for five goals and five assists to lead Elmira Free Academy past Odessa-Montour 7-2 in a non-league boys soccer match Thursday in Elmira.

Munson finished with three goals and two assists; Varkatzas with two goals and three assists. Nick Lian and Mackenzie Park added a goal apiece for the Blue Devils.

For Odessa-Montour, Devon Arnold and Phil Smith each had a goal.

EFA will go into the Section 4 Class A playoffs as the top seed. The Blue Devils will take on the winner between Southside and Owego on Oct. 29.

Varkatzas Leads EFA to Victory in Boys Soccer

Alex Varkatzas had two goals and an assist Wednesday to lead the Elmira Free Academy boys soccer team to a 5-0 non-league victory against visiting Newfield.

Dan Earley, Tom Milliken and Brian Owens also scored goals for EFA, which hosts Odessa-Montour on Thursday.

Elmira Free Academy Nips Southside in Boys Soccer

Nick Lian's second-half goal gave Elmira Free Academy a 1-0 victory over host Southside Friday in a Southern Tier Athletic Conference boys soccer match.

Luke Ford earned the shutout, making four saves for EFA (7-6-1). The Blue Devils held a 9-4 advantage in shots and a 12-3 edge in corner kicks.

Eric Berglung made seven saves for Southside (0-14).
