Perfect Game Invitational 16u Championship - ShockWave American

Posted by Aubrey Heflin on Jun 13 2011 at 05:00PM PDT

The ShockWave American team traveled to East Cobb, GA last week to compete in their first National event of the season.  The PERFECT GAME 16u Wood Bat Invitational host by East Cobb Baseball included 32 teams from 10 states.   The ShockWave went 3-0 in Pool Play to win their pool and advance to a Quarter Final match up with Marucci Elite.

Pool Play wins included a 13-5 victory over the Chattanooga Cherokees, 2-1 over the Homeplate ChilliDogs and 9-0 over Team GA.  Jamie Callahan overpowered the Homeplate lineup with a 92mph fastball and recorded 14K's in route to a complete game "no hitter" on Friday, followed up on Saturday by JD Waites masterful "1 hit" gem over Team GA and then capped off Sunday morning when Akeem Bostick's "no hit" domination over Marucci Elite in the Quarter Final.   The ShockWave won an 11 inning Semi-Final battle 3-2 with the East Cobb Yankees (and umpires) off of 6 shutout innings of relief pitching by Preston Lane (2) and Jordan Gore (4) to take on the East Cobb Astros in Championship game.

The championship game was an exciting back and forth battle that saw the Astros take a one run lead, only to relinquish it the following inning on three separate occasions. After East Cobb went up 4-3 in the bottom of the 6th it looked like the Shockwave would continue to answer in the 7th after a leadoff walk was followed by an error, gave them runners on 1st and 2nd with one out. Leadoff hitter Jordan Gore came to the plate with a chance to tie or put his team ahead, Gore got a pitch to drive and smoked a liner up the 3B line...only to find the glove of the 3rd baseman who rifled it to second for a game ending double play.  Hayden Heflin went the distance on the mound for ShockWave and took the loss against one of the top teams in the country.

Jamie Callahan earned Most Valuable Pitcher of the tournament award for his pitching performance on Friday.
