Your Golden Bears JV football started the season Monday night with their first win of the season snapping a long losing streak beating Greensburg 20-16. The Golden Bears scored first when sophomore RB Axel Conover took it to the end zone on a 32 yd run in the 2nd quarter. Later in the 2nd quarter, sophomore QB Eli Chappelow hit sophomore WR Alex Macharia on a 38 yd pass to give the Golden Bears a 12-0 lead. The duo connected on another pass to get the 2 pt conversion to give the Golden Bears a 14-0 into the halftime break. During the second half, Greensburg was able to take the lead 16-14 in the middle of the 4th quarter. Then the offense marched it down the field on the ground on the legs of Conover, Chappelow and freshman Keagan Turner behind the offensive line full of youth as 4 of the 6 were playing their first high school game. The drive would be capped off when Turner would find the end zone on a 10 yd run to make the score 20-16. The defense would have to make a final stop in the last 3:00. The defense was able to force 4 interceptions throughout the night including the last Greensburg possession as Chappelow would intercept a pass in the end zone. Chappelow would get 3 interceptions during the game, Macharia would get the other. The defense made impressive plays also from Turner and Avery Murnan and the defensive line made it tough to run the ball throughout the game. The Golden Bears JV team is now 1-0 and will travel to Richmond Saturday morning for their next game.
