Chiefs Edge Maddogs at Maplewood, 9-8

(Malden, MA)- The Chiefs rallied back from a 6-3 fifth inning deficit to eventually come away with a 9-8 win over the Malden Maddogs on Monday night at Maplewood.

A leadoff single from Juan Parra, doubles from Ryan Noone (pictured) and Andrew Caulfield, and an RBI single from Joe Bova, gave the Chiefs a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

The Maddogs came right back to knot the game at 3-3 in the top of the second inning on RBI’s from Damian Brown and Ben Croteau and a Lawrence Tang two-out homer.

Malden added single runs in the next three innings to take a 6-3 lead heading into the bottom of the fifth where the Chiefs sent nine men to the plate and took an 8-6 lead. Walks to Parra and Miles Reid got the inning started before Teddy Dziuba delivered both with a double to close the gap to 6-5. Two walks, two errors, and a hit batsman, accounted for the next three runs giving the Chiefs a two-run lead.

The Maddogs tied things up at 8-8 in the top of the sixth inning with two unearned runs.

The Chiefs got the game winner in the bottom of the sixth. Reid reached on a one out infield error and came around to score on Noone’s two out single to left.

Tim Dunphy started for the Chiefs and worked the first 3.2 innings before giving way to Jonathan Richard who went the next 1.1 frames. Righty Paul Frisoli (1-0) came on for the Chiefs in the top of the sixth and picked up his first win of the season. The former Bentley University standout struck out five, allowed one hit and no earned runs.

Chiefs Chatter….Monday’s win snapped the Maddogs winning streak at four games and extended the Chiefs streak to six wins. The team has won nine of its last ten starts and improved to 16-5 on the year…..Next up is a date with the Melrose Americans at Morelli Field on Wednesday night at 7:30 PM….The Chiefs will return home and host the Sabertooth Expos on Thursday at Maplewood at 8:00 PM…..
