Eagles Spilit with Zeeland on Senior Day
HARTLAND – It was a day to honor this year’s seniors and to welcome back a familiar face for the
Hartland baseball team on Saturday. The Eagles had their senior day under brilliant sunshine while
spltting a doubleheader with Zeeland East, losing the first game 1-0 before winning the nightcap 10-0.
Zeeland East is coached by Matt Sattler, a former Hartland standout who went on to play baseball at
Hope College. He was one of the players on Hartland coach Brian Morrison’s first teams.“It’s always
special when you see guys you coached do well,” Morrison said. “But to see Matt become a teacher and
a coach is extra special.”Sattler also had a new role on Saturday, less than 48 hours after his wife gave
birth to their first child.“He was a little tired,” Morrison joked. The Dux won the first game by stealing home
after a failed sacrifice bunt in the top of the seventh. In the nightcap, Jake Lowery pitched five innings
and went 3-for-4, belting two triples and a homer while driving in four runs.
Travis Johnson also doubled for Hartland (18-8), which also got two hits from Brent Diamond and
John Baker.
