2006 NORTHSIDE COLLEGE PREP IHSA SECTIONAL ROSTER

Posted by Jon Gordon on May 06 2006 at 05:00PM PDT
IHSA STATE SECTIONALS! – FRIDAY, MAY 19, 2006 – BUS LEAVES AT 2:00 PM All of the meets we competed in this season have just been practice until now. The real SEASON starts TODAY. This will be the first time in two years that Northside College Prep has competed in an IHSA Sectional Track & Field Championship! The experience will be priceless and one that you will remember for the rest of your lives. On Friday, May 19, 2006, we will travel to Niles West High School for the IHSA State Sectionals!! The top two athletes in every event and relay qualify for the 2006 IHSA State Championships!! There is automatic qualifying times, distances, and heights as well. However, the purpose of the automatic qualifying standards is to allow for more than two athletes to qualify for the State Championships if the athlete’s performance is worthy of it. You do not have to hit a qualifying standard to go to the State meet. You only have to finish in the Top 2 to qualify for the State Championships!! Also, it is important to remember, that WE are also competing for the TEAM title as well. The top 6 places score in the meet, and individual IHSA Sectional Medals will be awarded as well as TEAM Trophies. The athletes listed on the following pages have been selected to represent Northside College Prep in the 2006 IHSA State Sectionals on May 19, 2006 at Niles West High School. We need EVERYONE listed on the following pages to train hard the next two weeks, and be at every practice, and come to the meet prepared mentally and physically to race their best. The athlete with the most CONFIDENCE and a strong belief in his own abilities is the one who will run, jump, or throw his best at the IHSA State Sectionals. Several times, I’ve seen athletes defeat themselves before the gun goes off, because they did not believe in themselves. 1964 Olympic Gold Medalist, Billy Mills said it best, “A winner says I can do it in advance.” Alternates During the CPS Championship series, every alternate was used, and in several cases the alternates listed were not at the meet when the TEAM needed them, resulting in disqualifications because they wrongly thought they would not compete. The best alternates prepare as if their going to race. If for any reason you can’t attend IHSA Sectionals, let Coach Gordon know within 48 hours, because the IHSA does not permit roster changes after 48 hours from today. The alternates that have come through for the TEAM in the past, have been the athletes that prepare physically and mentally that their going to race. In the event that you do not get to race, the experience will still be priceless and alternates also get a trip to the State Championship if the relay qualifies. REMEMBER ONE THING…. WE ARE GOING TO THE IHSA STATE SECTIONALS TO TAKE HOME A TEAM TROPHY AND QUALIFY AS MANY ATHLETES AS POSSIBLE FOR THE 2006 IHSA STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS. TO DO THIS, WE MUST HAVE A GREAT TEAM EFFORT WITH TOTAL CONCENTRATION ON RUNNING, JUMPING, AND THROWING AT OUR POTENTTIAL. THE TEAM THAT GOES IN WITH A REAL DESIRE, AN ATTITUDE OF MENTAL TOUGHNESS ABOUT WHAT THEY CAN DO, AN AGGRESSIVE APPROACH TO THE MEET AND A WILLINGNESS TO RUN WITH THEIR ABILITY AND CHALLENGE THEM SELF WILL WIN.
