Northside's Girls BREAK 8 SCHOOL RECORDS at IHSA State Sectional Championships!!

On Friday, May 12, 2006, the Northside Womens Track & Field Team traveled to Palatine High School for the IHSA Sectional Championships. The meet featured: Hersey, St. Viator, Buffalo Grove, Amundsen, CICS-Northtown Academy, Mather, Northside, Senn, St. Scholastica, Sullivan, Von Steuben, Evanston, Glenbrook South, Prospect, Glenbrook North, Palatine, Niles North, Niles West, Wheeling, Loyola Academy, Regina Dominican, and New Trier. The Top two athletes in each event qualified for the IHSA State Championships. Athletes that hit an IHSA qualifying standard also qualified for the State Championships. With the Medals were also awarded to the Top 5 finishers. Points were awarded for the Top 6 places. Palatine High School edged Evanston High school 154-138 to win the Team Trophy. The Mustangs had their BEST meet of the season, and broke 8 school records! In the 4x800m Relay, Anna Parks ran a personal best 2:30.2 800m split on the first leg of the relay, which is within 5 seconds of the IHSA State qualifying standard for the 800m run. Parks would later on in the meet, race in the 800m run. On the second leg of the relay, Senior Maruja Yoshimura ran a 2:59 800m split, and made a nice exchange to Freshman Carmen Abelson. Abelson ran a 2:45 800m split on the third leg of relay. Julie Bujnowski anchored the relay with an 2:49 800m split on the final leg of the relay, for a total time of 11:03. The Mustangs dropped 1 minute and 46 seconds off the 4x800m Relay from City Championships and beat the school record by 19 seconds!!! In the 4x800m Relay, a record Five Teams hit the qualifying standard and qualified for the IHSA State Championships: Prospect High School, Palatine High School, Glenbrook South, New Trier, and Hersey High School. In the 800m Sprint Medley, Natalie Hanigan, Stephanie Sotomayer, Adoara Achufusi, and Kelly Varney combined for an outstanding time of 2:08.1. In the 4x100m Relay, Natalie Hanigan, Adoara Achufusi, Jennifer Kane, and Stephanie Sotomayor broke the school record with a time of 57.4!!! In the Triple Jump, Maria Torres jumped an outstanding 32'2. Gayatri Satam jumped an outstanding 29'1.5. In the Long Jump, Maria Torres broke the school record with a personal best jump of 14'5. Julia Bujnowski jumped an outstanding 13'7. In the Discus, Kaitlin Renkosiak threw an outstanding 54'3. Stephanie Sotomayor threw a personal best 48'8. In the Shot Put, Kaitlin Renkosiak threw a personal best 22'8. In the 3200m Run, Rachel Kittaka ran a 5:51.7 Mile split, and finished third in her heat with a NEW School record of 12:21.06. Julia Shimada ran a 7:06.7 Mile Split, and finished with a time of 14:19.4. In the 100m Dash, Maria Zdunek ran an outstanding time of 16.88. In the 100m Hurdles, Kelly Varney ran an outstanding time of 18.9. Jennifer Kane also ran an outstanding time of 19.9. In the 200m Dash, Augusta Scescke ran a personal best time of 35.71. In the 300m Hurdles, Maria Zdunek dropped 5 seconds of her personal best, and set a NEW School record of 59.00. In the 400m Dash, Julie Bujnowski won her heat with a time of 66.4. In the 800m Run, Anna Parks came within 8 seconds of the Automatic State Qualifying time with an outstanding time of 2:33.76. In the 4x200m Relay, Natalie Hanigan, Adaora Achufusi, Kelly Varney, and Jennifer Kane broke the school record with a time of 1:56.4. In the 1600m Run, Rachel Kittaka finished third in her heat, and broke another school record with a personal best time of 5:42.5. Senior Maruja Yoshimura ended her High School career on a high note, with a personal best time of 6:23.8. In the 4x400m Relay, Anna Parks ran a 65.3 400m split on the first leg of the relay, and made a nice exchange to Carmen Abelson. Abelson ran a 71.1 400m split on the second leg of the relay. Kelly Varney ran a 68.00 400m split on the third leg of the relay. Julie Bujnowski anchored the relay with a 66.3 400m split to a NEW School record with a time of 4:30.7. The 2006 Track & Field Season was by far the BEST season in the history of the Northside College Prep Womens Track & Field program. Every school record except the 100m dash and Shot Put were broken or tied by the 2006 Mustangs during the course of the season. image
