Mustangs awarded Team Trophy at Kenwood Classic! 4x800m Relay 8:54! Nelson jumps 5'10! O'Connor 4:49!

On Saturday, April 22, 2006, the Northside Mens Track & Field Team traveled to Eckersal stadium to take on 15 schools in the Kenwood Classic. The meet was well organized and complete with Hy-Tek scoring, and a surplus of officials. Medals were awarded to the Top 3 Individuals in each Event. Team Trophys were also awarded to the Top 3 Teams in the meet. Eight places were scored, and the scoring scale used was 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1. Oak Park-River Forest High School won the meet. The Mustangs took home several medals and the Third place Trophy by scoring 92 points!! In the 4x800m Relay, Brandon Cooper lead-off with 61 seconds opening quarter, and ran a 2:10.59 on the first leg of the 4x800m Relay. Joseph Terdik ran 62 seconds for the first quarter, and a 2:12.40 800m split on the second leg of the 4x800m relay, and made a nice exchange to Preston Buehrer. Preston Buehrer ran 66 seconds for the first quarter, and a 2:20.44 800m split on the third leg of the 4x800m relay. Patrick O'Connor anchored the 4x800m relay to victory with 63 seconds for the first quarter, and a 2:11.76 800m split on the final leg of the 4x800m relay, for a total time of 8:54.19. It was the fastest 4x800m Relay by Northside this season. In the 4x100m Relay, Brian Chhun lead-off with 12.23 100m split, and made a nice exchange to Santino Merino. Merino ran a 12.50 on the second leg of the 4x100m relay, and made a nice exchange to Geoff Edwards. Edwards ran a 13.10 on the third leg of the relay. Sam Vergara anchored the relay to 5th place overall with a 13.15 100m split, for a total time of 50.98. In the Weightmen's 4x100m Relay, Wemi Jemine and Manraj Bains did not make the Team Bus, and throwers Spencer Rosenfeldt and James Casper-Shipp ran in there replacement. Brandon Cooper ran a 12.83 100m split on the first leg of the relay. James Casper-Shipp ran a 13.91 100m split on the second leg of the relay. Spencer Rosenfeldt ran a 14.95 100m split on the third leg of the relay and made a nice exchange to Preston Buehter. Buehrer anchored the relay with a personal best 12.41 100m split, to place 4th overall, for a total time of 54.10. In the Shot Put, Chris Zysko placed 7th overall with a throw of 36'5.5. Benjamin Garcia threw a personal best 33'2. In the Discus, Chris Zysko placed 4th overall with a throw of 112'11. Benjamin Garcia placed 6th overall with a personal best throw of 92'2. In the High Jump, Eric Nelson placed 3rd overall with an outstanding jump of 5'10. In the Long Jump, Geoff Edwards placed 8th overall with a personal best 17'04.25. In the Triple Jump, Eric Nelson placed 6th overall with a personal best 36'1. Geoff Edwards placed 8th overall with a personal best 31'9.75. In the 3200m run, Daniel Kittaka ran a 5:07 for the first mile, and won the 3200m run with an outstanding time of 10:38. Jonathan Kittaka ran a 5:27 for the first mile, and placed 4th overall with an outstanding time of 11:22. In 110m High Hurdles, the Mustangs were without Hurdlers Albert Lin and Sammy Caronagan due to other obligations. Santino Merino and Captain Daniel Kittaka came through for the Mustangs on a moment's notice. Santino Merino placed 4th overall with a personal best time of 22.21. Daniel Kittaka placed 6th overall with a personal best time of 25.93. In the 100m Dash, Erik Flores ran a 13.63. Sam Vergara ran a 14.27. In the 800m run, Freshman Brandon Cooper ran the first quarter in 63 seconds, and placed 4th overall with a 800m time of 2:17. Sophomore Preston Buehrer ran the first quarter in 65 seconds, and placed 6th overall with a 800m time of 2:20. In the 4x200m Relay, the Mustangs placed 7th overall, with a time of 1:47.31. Brian Chhun ran the first leg in 27.77 and made a nice exchange to Santino Merino. Merino ran the second leg in 26.32. Geoff Edwards ran a 25.28 on the third leg of the relay, and Erik Flores anchored the relay with a 27.54. In the 400m Dash, Benjamin Garcia ran a 57.41. In the 300m Hurdles, Eric Nelson placed 6th overall with a 50.18. Daniel Kittaka placed 8th overall with a personal best 53.82. In the 1600m Run, Patrick O'Connor placed 3rd overall with a 4:49. Joseph Terdik placed 4th overall with a 5:08. In the 4x400m Relay, Preston Buehrer ran a personal best 59.80 on the first leg of the relay. Eric Nelson ran a 62.70 on the second leg of the relay. Brandon Cooper ran a 59.42 on the third leg of the relay, and Benjamin Garcia anchored the relay with a 58.58 on the final leg of the relay to place 5th overall with a time of 4:00.50.
