2012 Season Report

Posted by John Hughes on Dec 02 2012 at 04:00PM PST

What a fine season it has been for Limekiln Rounders G.A.A. club.  Along with the good news announcement from the Minister of State Brian Hayes regarding the “ GO  AHEAD” on the T.A.S.C. pavilion we have had some fantastic performances on the field.

At the underage All Ireland Rounders Feile, held on the August Bank Holiday Weekend we had teams participating in all sections, taking gold in the under 15 boys and under 16 mixed. The under 15 Boys won their Final against The Heath with a power display at bat and the under16 Mixed beat Piercetown of Wexford with what was one of the best displays of fielding and batting all year at any level in the game of Rounders.

To cater for the number of our Ladies wishing to play in the Senior championship it was necessary to form Greenhills G.A.A. Rounders Club, well done to those involved in this initiative.

At Senior level, although disappointed in failing to retain the Men’s All Ireland, title in a match that we were in control of for six of the seven innings, we redeemed ourselves somewhat by taking the Mixed title. Our Ladies also travelled to Naomh Mhuire’s fine facility in Moneymore Co. Derry in June and brought the Gary Kelly cup to Dublin.

Our own one day competition, the “Limekiln Challenge Cup” was held on the 16th. Sept. in Tymon Park. Despite the cold, windy weather and a clash with other fixtures that effected numbers taking part, we had a good day’s rounders with 4 teams playing. Everyone in attendance was fed and watered and enjoyed the fun and games. Rounding off the season nicely for our club, we are delighted to be picking up 8 G.A.A. Rounders All Star Awards out of 24 being presented in the Green Isle Hotel on Nov. 30th. (6 Men & 2 Women )

We take this opportunity to congratulate everyone who, won, lost or drew, took to the Diamond for enjoyment this past season and hope to see them all again with many extras next year. We thank everyone who helped Limekiln Rounders in any way throughout the year, special mention of thanks to the Staff and Patrons of the Traders for their continued and valued support. We wish all a Merry Christmas and a New Year that brings good cheer, health and happiness to all.
