2007 MV INVITE - Raw Results

Posted by Mike Davis at Sep 4, 2007 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Files for each race, showing bib # and school affiliation.   All MV runners recorded their bib numbers so that we can go back and assign names.  For now, these are the raw results.  Also included - combined boys and girls races (as if all boys had run in one large race - sorted by time... same for girls).
No scores were kept, as this is a warm-up meet, however, scores are shown on the bottom of the forms (unofficial).

Monte Vista Invite - Mustang Results WITH NAMES

Posted by Mike Davis at Sep 3, 2007 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Finally, combined boys and girls results from the MV Invite with names added.  Forgive the sloppy handwriting and the mistakes in spelling.  Some bid numbers were not recorded, or recorded on a separate form.  If you see a "?" where your name should be - email Coach Davis.

Solid racing from the entire team.  The Eliminator...didn't.

2007 - 2nd Alumni Run brings back MVXC grads from many years!

Posted by Mike Davis at Aug 14, 2007 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Nearly 50 alumni, current team members coaches and parents toe the line for the second annual Alumni Race!  Great racing up front, and throughout the pack make for a memorable day.  Of course, the socializing before and after was what most current and former teammates enjoyed the most!  Oldest almuni award goes to Chris Leavell from the class of 1988, who showed everyone that he's got some strong racing years left by taking a close 4th place overall.  Jamie McCormick brings home the "Enjoying the Course" award by completing the 2 mile event - smiling all the way!

On the boys side, pre-race smack talk could be heard amongst some of the current and former team, as a predicted close race certainly materialized.  Current team member Harry Nunns led coming out of the hills, and withstood a furious kick by his brother Geoff Nunns (currently running for Johns Hopkins) to take first overall in a record time.  As a note - brother Peter Nunns finishes 10th overall (5th man for the almuni) completing a banner day for the Nunns household!  Dustin Harris from the current team, the leader at the mile mark, finishes a strong 3rd, followed by Leavell in 4th.  However, the current team slams the door shut with Clinton McAdams (5th), Mike Roderick (6th) and Cameron Tremblay-Adams (7th) taking the next three spots.  John Geilholfe and John Berhing round out the alumni scoring.

On the womens side, a 1-2-3 sweep by the alumni, coupled with a full scoring team this year, avenged last years loss to the current team.  But it as really close.  Brittany Rezowalli (currently running for LMU) repeates as the womens overall winner.  Current MV Track & Field record holders Susan Chan (1600/3200 meters) and Elizabeth Combs (300 Intermediate Hurdles) take the next two spots respectively.  Alex D'Souza and Kim Chin were 4th and 5th, putting pressure on the the top runners.  However, with Nicole Krampf and Jamie Callahan rounding out the scoring, the alumni had their narrow victory insured!  Completing the current team scoring were: Anna Hoyt (6th), Katie Swinnerton (7th) and Lauren Ho (8th).

Congrats to parents Jeff Berhing, Scott Camp  and to Coach Martha Breen for racing the course as well.

All participants agreed that this is a worthy event to keep holding, so plans for round three will be made soon.  Great job to all who raced, including several of the incoming freshman who lined up to challenge the Eliminator for the first time!

Mustangs enjoy first Summer Running Camp!

Posted by Mike Davis at Jul 26, 2007 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

From Sunday July 22nd through Friday the 27th, 14 Mustangs joined over 120 other runners from the Bay Area, the North Coast and even Reno Nev at the HSU Running Camp.  This camp first started in the 1980's by legendary coach Jim Hunt, who at 81 years old, is still an active participant in the camp.  Sponsored by Asics, and run by Kevin Searls of the Asics Aggies Running Club, the camp totally immersed the participants in all aspects of "a running lifestyle".

After checking in on Sunday afternoon, the first run was at 4 pm that day, through the scenic redwood forest that borders Humboldt State.  Each day started with the bone-jarring cowbelling and boombox of Coach Searls, as he woke the campers at 6 am for the first run of the day.  Ugh!  After breakfast in the dinning hall, the campers spent an hour in a lecture before heading to the track for speed and agility and form drills.  Rotating through 5 stations, including a detailed filming of their running form, the Stangs picked up lots of helpful training ideas.  After the track work, those interested in the Steeplechase stayed to work on that (way to go Dustin and Kristin!).  Lunch was next, followed by a couple hours of free time (read: sleep).  Up next was the main workout of the day - the long run!  Each day the campers were bused out to a new location, and they ran along the beach, into the Tall Trees, or along the Arcata Marsh.  Great trails for training.  Upon returning, it was dinner time, followed by an evening session that featured guest speakers, and then back to the dorms for some down time before "lights out" at 11pm.  And then it started all over again.

On Friday, Dustin ran the Steeplechase and finished 2nd overall (and the first high school runner, with the winner being a college runner).  Kristin Hugo also successfully competed the barriers and had a blast doing so.

Guest speakers included Lindsey Allen of Stanford (current collegian record holder in the steeplechase, ex College Park HS runner), Mike Pigg (former US Triathlon Champion) and Gabe Jennings (2000 US Olympic Trails 1500 winner and former Stanford star).  Guest coaches also spoke to the runners, giving advice from nutrition, shoes and general lifestyle tips.

As this was the first year that MV has attended this camp, we all were uncertain as to how it would go.  The answer was a resounding "It's GREAT!!!".  If you are a Jr, Soph or Freshman this year, make plans for next year, because you don't want to miss this!
