Ed Sias Invitational - results!

Posted by Mike Davis on Sep 08 2006 at 05:00PM PDT
Great day of racing at Hidden Valley Park for the Mustang XC team!  The weather was mild, the competition fierce, and the course dusty, rolling, and fast.  Well, fast until that last hill anyway.  For many, this was the first big "invitational" of the season.  A mix of excitement and nerves was the order of the morning for most.  With 40 teams competing, each of the races were full of runners, creating tight corners, lots of dust, and mad sprints for the finish.

From a team standpoint, the JV girls had the highest finish of the day, taking 5th place out of 15 teams that scored.  Jr Brett Zorich, in her first XC of the season, was the highest placing finisher on the day, taking 3rd place that JV race.  Fellow Juniors Lauren Ho (29th) and Kim Chin (35th) helped insure the top 5 finish.

The Frosh Soph Girls came in an impressive 8th out of 18 teams, despite the fact that 3 MV Sophs ran on the Varsity team!  Leading the way for the F/S girls was Fr Nicole Aha in 34th place, with Fr Katie Swinnerton and So Alex D'Souza close behind.

Fr. Anna Hoyt ran a great race to finish 15th in the F/S JV unlimited race!  Kaity Thomas was next across the line in 28th place.

The Girls Varsity team was very competitive in their first race of the season - finishing 14th out of 31 teams.  With 212 runners in the race, the Lady Mustangs had all five in by the 107th runner.  Jr Brittany Randall showed that her great race at the MV Invite was no fluke, taking top honors in 42nd place (scoring place).  Jr Renee Lau was again second, clocking in at 14:41 for 59th.  Rounding out the varsity scoring members were Soph Kaitlin Kelly, Jr Chloe Wood and Soph Christi Beeman.  Soph Taysa Bowers and Sr Katie Rabago were the 6th and 7th varsity runners.

On the boys side, the Frosh Soph team, led by Soph Mike Roderick's 19th place finish, took an impressive 7th out of 24 teams!  Soph Alex Morris had a solid race, taking home 37th place.  Freshman Ty Trail, Jake Erlick and Amis Matulionis were packed close behind, putting the 5th runner in at 62nd place.  That's how it's done!

In the open Frosh race,  Rahul Avasarala came across the line first for the Stangs in 26th place.  Conner Beeman, Davis Rendel and Sebastian DeLuca were close behind.

The Junior Varsity Boys were 13th out of 21 teams.  Juniors Harry Nunns and Cameron Tremblay-Adams were the top finishers for the squad - 26th and 39th respectively. In the unlimited JV race, Jr Neal Mirchandani broke into the top 50 finishers with a 14;12 clocking, with Dietrich  Nordmeyer close behind in 14:15.

The Varsity Boys mirrored the performance of the girls squad, finishing mid pack in the large field (13th out of 22 teams).  Juniors led the day again, with Bhavik Kanzaria taking an impressive 11th place in the tough field, while Clinton McAdams showed that he's back to his 2005 pre-injury form, placing a solid 36th place.  Jr's Tyler Breen and Danny Bartz were next across the line, with Seniors Keith Romoser and Jake Smith rounding out the varsity team.

Earlier in the day, Coach Davis huffed and puffed to a 31st place finish in the coaches race, encouraged by the cheers of the team out on the course.  He hopes that he beat a few middle school runners as well!
