Bob coached with the Eager Beaver Baseball Association and served as president of  EBBA. He was a  member of the Baseball Ontario board of directors for approximately 25 years where he worked extremely hard coordinating Baseball Ontario's Risk Management program. Bob received the Barry Salt Award - Director of the Year in 2009

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 27 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at FOREST LAWN MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 1997 Dundas St. E. Donations may be made to the University Hospital, London, Cardiac Care - ICU or Ontario Baseball Association as expressions of sympathy.

Bob will be dearly missed by the Baseball community in London and throughout the province of Ontario.

The following reamrks and condolences have been received by LDBA:

"This is very sad news for me. As the Executive Director of Baseball Ontario, I had the pleasure of working with Bob for many years. He took a stance on Risk Management issues and worked tirelessly on behalf of the youngsters and Volunteers in our Province. He was sincere, reliable, thorough and above all dedicated to everything he did. Minor Baseball is in a much better position today because of his efforts.
I am currently in Florida enjoying Spring Training, my thoughts and prayers are with Bob's family and many friends."

"It was with great sadness I learned of Bob's death. He will be missed. I have known Bob for close to 20 years through the LDBA and Baseball Ontario. He did a lot of work for both organizations, and he was always helpful to me when I had a question. I sat with Bob and his wife at the OBA convention banquet last November.

Could you pass along our condolences to Bob's wife and family from the Sarnia Braves Minor Baseball?"
Sincerely,
John Vasey

I sat beside Bob last Sunday. He is or was one of the finest people whom I have met in my 50 odd years in baseball. Our game has lost a wonderful person, but more importantly his family has lost a great husband, father and grandfather. RIP Bob

This is very sad, sad news.
Nancy and I are both shocked and very sad to hear of Bob's passing.
Not very good news for Bob's family, his many friends, and the sport of baseball.
Our best wishes and condolences to Bob's family.

What a sad loss for Bob's family and friends. The baseball community was very well served by Bob for many years. I am so glad that I chatted with him recently.

THREE FROM LDBA CLAIM BASEBALL ONTARIO AWARDS

Posted by Dan Haugh at Dec 8, 2011 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

At the Baseball Ontario Awards Gala held at the Delta London Armouries on November 19, London Badgers head Coach Mike Lumley received the 2011 Baseball Ontario Coach
of The Year Award while Badger Midget player Byron Reichstein of St. Thomas was named Baseball Ontario Adult Player of The Year. Lumley’s Midget Badgers captured the Gold Medal at the 2011 Baseball Canada Midget Championships in Regina. It was the second Gold Medal in three years for the London Midget Badgers to go with a bronze medal in 2010. Reichstein was an integral part of this year’s Midget Badgers posting a .404 bating average, and he is currently attending Texarkana C.C. in Texarkana, Texas on a baseball Scholarship. In 2010 Reichstein was a member of the Ontario Youth team that won a Silver Medal in the 2010 Canada Cup.

In addition to Lumley and Reichstein receiving honours, London and District Baseball Association Umpire-In-Chief Rob Companion was named Baseball Ontario Level 5 Umpire of The Year. Companion put in long hours developing the curriculum for the Level 3 Umpire Super Clinics in 2011, as well as working on the field in the Baseball Canada Junior Championships in Windsor where he successfully received his endorsement for International eligibility.

Bantam Badger head coach Steve Cochrane explained why he thinks Mike Lumley is one of the best baseball coaches in Canada,

“Mike is truly a fantastic coach when it comes to game management. He has the innate ability to read opponents defenses and offenses. It is uncanny how well he can anticipate plays prior to them unfolding. No doubt he is a student of the game and has over tens of thousands of innings developed his abilities as one of the best coaches in the nation.”

Reichstein is the fourth Midget Badger Player to win Baseball Ontario Player of the Year honours. Previous winners include: Chris Robinson 2001, Jamie Romak 2002 and
Ryan Zimmer 2009.
