Goalie scores but....

Posted by Rob Anderson at Nov 6, 2005 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

There was a buzz around Soccer City last night about some "New and improved" Ouzo squad.  After winning there first two games and on a high, Ouzo briefly came back to life in a 8-4 loss on Sunday night. The boys came out of the gates flat and as a result went down two goals early. They managed to close the gap to 3-2 at half with first half strikes by Stuart Fletcher and a late goal by newcomer Chris Burton.

The momentum seemed to be slowly shifting towards Ouzo at the end of the first half, but a few mental lapses and some shaky defending early in the second half resulted in back-to-back goals for Mesopotamia. Fitness seemed to be a problem in the second half, but even as the legs grew tired, the boys still pressed. Second half goals by Jesse Geisel and Chris Burton finished the scoring for Ouzo. The boys should keep their heads high as they controlled major parts of the game, but couldn't capitalize on their chances.

Game MVP goes to Mike Michaelides, after shutting down their top goal scorer in a gutsy performance by the 2nd year player out of Kitchener.

The boys finished the night with a few pints to close down Wingers (2:30AM) for the first time this season. Once again proving that win or lose, we've still got our booze.

Ouzo now sit at 2-1 after their first 3 games.

Ouzo's Out of the Gates with a W

Ouzo's first victory of the year came against our biggest rivals Arnold and Bart (aka Bert and Ernie) with a 4-3 victory.  One of our  newest editions Ruben Flores opened the scoring beating Arnold and Bart's goalie on the short side.  Ouzo slipped another drippler in from along the boards to make it 2-0.  Arnold less Bart managed to catch Ouzo sleeping to sneak in two to tie the game.  Ouzo took the lead with two seconds left on the clock when Rob (Steeles) Anderson's diving volley beat the helpless goalie.  The second half remained scoreless until Arnold and Bart managed to tie the game with only 7 minutes left in the game.  However, with only 3 minutes remaing the O.T.P (Ouzo Turning Point) occurred when Ruben Flores drove the ball past a screened goalie to give Ouzo the victory.  This victory was celebrated with what else but pitchers of beer with 4 lbs of wings at Wingers.
