A late comeback by Ouzo not enough

Posted by Rob Anderson at Dec 18, 2005 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

On a day when the Colts, the NFL's only undefeated team, lose to the Chargers, Ouzo proved they are not so perfect as well. The boys went into the game with high hopes of securing a play-off spot, but it wasn't meant to be. At least not on Sunday - the boys still have a shot at the 3rd or 4th play-off spot, but now it's out of their hands.

The game began with a brisk pace, but that is something Ouzo has become accustomed to in the 1st division. After going down by two, versatile Midfielder Stu Fletcher brought the boy's to within one with a rocket of a shot that beat the keeper top the near post. The play capped a nice give and go with Rob Anderson.

Mesopotamia's fire power proved to be too much for Ouzo and as a result went up 4-1 before Ouzo could even think about tasting their first beer after the game. With the game almost out of reach, Ouzo dug down and climbed there way back with 2 goals from Rob Rusnov, who at this point in the season might be the teams MVP. His first goal was an unassisted effort that beat the goalie to the short side. The second was assisted by Steve Delaney and driven past a screened goalie. With less than 5 minutes to play in the game, Mike "fireball" Michaelides fed a nice ball to Rob Anderson, who finished into the open net and tying the game at 4. But just as the boys were celebrating, the ref disallowed the goal by saying that Mike kicked the ball out of the keepers hands. "What a load of Bollocks" said newcomer Behn Wurthman after the game. "That ref cost us the game". He was right, because after that call, Mike turned into "the Champ" from Q107 and gave the ref a verbal blow to the solarplexes, which resulted in a 2 minute minor for fiery Midfielder.

From there, Mesopotamia did what they do best. Knocked it around while Ouzo was down a man and capitalized on their chances. The scoreboard read 6-3 after the game. Disappointing finish to an exciting game.

Ouzo fall back to .500 for the season

Posted by Rob Anderson at Dec 11, 2005 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

SOCCER CITY, ETOBICOKE -
Ouzo F.C showed that indoor soccer must be played for an entire 40 minutes. After leading most of the game and completely out-playing their opposition, the last minute proved to be the deciding factor.

Ouzo went up early after newcomer Matthew Smith fired a shot off the boards that landed right in front of Stuart Fletcher who finished nicely. That goal marked Stuart's 4th of the season. The scored stayed that way dispute numerous chances by the Ouzo faithful. They seemed to have the Bulls under pressure for most of the game, but we all know that game's are won by goals, not crossbars or posts.

With less than 3 minutes left in regulation and BEER on their minds, Ouzo yet again showed their fans why they have yet to see their team win a championship in the 1st division. Still up 1-0, a Bull's player fired a nice shot from the outside, which was saved initially by keeper Colin Wright. Unfortunately the rebound fell nicely for a Bull player, which he slotted home for the equalizer. No beer at Soccer City would make that one worth it.

Still in shock, Ouzo pushed for the win, which just wasn't happening that night. For the 2nd time in 4 games, Ouzo conceded a goal in the final minute to lose.
This was also the second time the team has lost 2-1 this season.

After 8 games, the team sits at 4-4 will still a legitimate chance at the 3rd seed for the play-offs.  The team will have to win their next two games to achieve that goal.
Next game is Sunday at 12:45pm.

Ouzo Quiets Raging Bulls

Posted by Rob Anderson at Dec 5, 2005 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

SOCCER CITY, ETOBICOKE - Ouzo once again broke .500 for the year when they defeated the Raging Bulls 5-4 this past Sunday afternoon.  They definitely live up to the "Raging" part of their name as after the game some of the players from the Bulls were not exactly speaking kindly to one another.

The Bulls scored the first two goals to make it 2-0.   Ouzo managed to get one back before half when Gus Polymerus passed to Jesse Geisel to make it 2-1.  Young Stuart Fletcher managed to tie the game in the second half with a nice pass from Gus.  Ouzo took the lead when Gus scored  on a pass from Rob (Steeles) Anderson to make it 3-2.  The tempered Bulls tied the game with some sloppy Ouzo marking.  Ouzo pulled ahead again when "Steeles" Anderson finally put one away to make it 4-3.  Jesse Geisel added his sixth goal of the year when Stuart Fletcher drove a pass that he one timed past the keeper.

It was at this point in the game where the Bulls became most frustrated.  The saying goes "You never talk smack to someone- unless you can back it up."  Well, during this time in the game the tempered Bulls were actually taunting Ouzo by chanting "We're being out worked by Ouzo".  Little did they know they were not only being outworked, but outscored as they lost to Ouzo 5-4.

When one of the tempered Bulls was asked after the game about the taunting, he "replied- Well, Ouzo is known for their toughness and I was trying to get my team going".  I guess it didn't work.

It should be interesting to see what strategy the "Tempered" Bulls try next Saturday against Ouzo F.C in what could be a real barn burner.  Stay tuned....

Sac + Phil= W Over AC Attack

Posted by Rob Anderson at Dec 4, 2005 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
Ouzo was out of the gates in the second session with a 5-4 win over AC Attack.  Just as they did in the first session, Ouzo defeated a top contending team the first game in the session.

Little did AC Attack know that on this day Ouzo had 2 secret weapons they had been hiding.  Those weapons were no other than Phil "Stitches" Kennedy and Steve "The Cat" Sacchitiello.  Phil was re-signed by Ouzo after spending over a year in England preparing himself for Ouzo.  Steve "The Cat" Sacchitiello has been signed as well as an extra when Ouzo requires his services.

AC Attack opened the scoring with a couple quick goals that caught Ouzo by surprise.  It was 2-0 for AC Attack when Phil Kennedy found the back of the net on a pass from Stuart Fletcher.   Before half time AC Attack added another to make it 3-1 at half.

The second half Bob "Steeles" Anderson finally converted from a pass from Ruben Flores.  Behn Wurthman tied the game for Ouzo when he blasted a beauty in the top corner on a pass from Stuart Fletcher.

Ouzo dominated the second half with possession.  Rob "Steeles" Anderson added an insurance goal when he hit a full volley from centre field that caught the AC Attack goalie back peddling to only have it go over his head and into the goal.

This was the goal that really disrupted AC Attack as Jesse "The Schnitz" Geisel was fouled along the boards and then straight armed across the neck.   Geisel two handed the defender and the referee reacted by throwing both Geisel and the AC Attack player out of the game.

AC Attack added another goal, but it was too little too late and Ouzo had their first win of the session.

Bobby "Steeles" Anderson said "My ankles felt amazing" thanks to the taping by Steve "The Cat" Sacchitiello.  Rumour has it we may see more of "The Cat" with this quality workmanship.

Ouzo gathered in Wingers to celebrate their victory and welcome back Phil "Stitches" Kennedy and Steve "The Cat" Sacchitiello.  The highlight of the night was the reunion between "The Cat" and "The Librarian"- it almost brought tears to my eyes.

Stay tuned next week when Ouzo takes on Lakeshore United!!
