SOCCER CITY, ETOBICOKE
- Ouzo F.C found out that it is tough to play Arnold & Bart 5 on 5, but even more difficult when it is 6 on 4. In a battle of epic proportions, Ouzo was edged by long-time rivals Arnold & Bart 4-2.

The game started off very evenly, with both teams possessing the ball. At about the half way mark of the first half, midfielder Stuart Fletcher converted in front of the net on a clinical finish to put Ouzo up 1-0. This lead would stand until halftime. Approaching the midway mark of the second half, with Ouzo in the A & B zone, Jesse Geisel set defender Steve Delaney up with a lovely back heel pass. With the whole bench and numerous spectators upstairs in the Winger’s Lounge screaming, “SHOOT!!!!” Delaney went upstairs in the top right hand corner, where mama keeps the peanut butter, to put Ouzo up 2-0. This marks the second game in a row in which Delaney has scored, a personal best.

At this point, Ouzo made a wholesale line change, but unfortunately A & B decided to be very unsporting and kicked off before all Ouzo players were on their side of half. Given this advantage, A & B proceeded to go down the field and get a fortunate bounce that was headed in to make the score 2-1 Ouzo. A penalty to Stuart Fletcher shortly after led to an A & B power play goal to make the score 2-2. Shortly after, Fletcher was given the gate after a conversation with the referee, which ended with Fletcher walking away and saying “Shut up”. Witnesses from upstairs in the Winger’s Lounge swear that moments before throwing Fletcher from the match, they saw an unidentified A & B player wave the referee’s green card from the bench and threaten to light it on fire. This ejection led to a large scrum of Ouzo players surrounding the referee and not exactly exchanging pleasantries with him. An enraged Steve “The Incredible Hulk” Delaney proceeded to doff his shirt and leave the pitch in protest. He would return a couple of minutes later after flexing for a few ladies in the stands.

After the fiasco had toned down, A & B were the recipients of a five-minute power play. This led to a power play goal to put A & B up in the match for the first time, 3-2. With about 4 minutes left Ouzo started pressuring A & B and with a minute and a half were almost rewarded when a Ruben Flores shot hit the inside of the post, but unfortunately bounced out. Then with less than 20 seconds left and Ouzo pressuring deep in the A & B to try and create a turnover, “The Big Guy” TM for A & B went in and scored the insurance goal on a breakaway.

Despite this very disappointing loss, Ouzo played perhaps their best match of the session. It is tough to win a game when you are handed 9 minutes in penalties in a 40-minute game. In the end Ouzo could not overcome the 6 on 4 disadvantages.

Ouzo will be looking to carry the momentum of a solid first session, into the second session in search of that coveted championship banquet.

LONDON, ENGLAND:  News from the Ouzo camp is that Management has come to a financial agreement with former Ouzo Alumni Phil Kennedy.  Details on the deal are a little unclear, but Kennedy past his physical yesterday to make it official.  "We are very pleased to have Phil back in our squad.  He scored some vital goals in the past and we are hoping his time in England has helped his development" Management said yesterday.  "He will be presented to the media and our fans at Soccer City before the first game of the 2nd session."

English media (The Sun) has reported that officials from Ouzo F.C were in London this past summer to speak with the player, along with Kennedy's agent (Jay Mangan) to work out the details of the contract.  It looks like there efforts have finally paid off.

Phil is  known best for his performance against Mississauga Croatia in a 4-nil win back in 2002.  After bandaging his head to cover up a wound that would later need 10 stiches, Phil came back in the 2nd half to score 2 influential goals from his defensive position.

OUZO FC ROARS INTO PLAYOFFS

SOCCER CITY, ETOBICOKE - Bring on Arnold and Bart! One goal was enough, but Ouzo slammed home 9, as Ouzo FC ensured the fourth and final playoff position behind Colin Wright's first shutout of the season.  Finishing the season with an impressive 3.3 GAA, Wright handled all of FC Kontakt’s 11 shots and looks at the top of his game entering the playoffs.  A strong performance from back three, Delaney, Rusnov, and Wurthman, saw the defensive trio hit the score sheet four times.  Ben Wurthman, who had been held pointless all season until this game, fired home his first 2 goals of the season and looks to have found his groove at just the right time.  “I knew I had it in me” said the Hamilton born defender, “It was just a matter of time before the goalies in the league felt my wrath.”

Mike Michaelides continued his impressive campaign adding two more goals and two assists to his season tally.  Michaelides’ strong play in the attacking zone and fearsome tracking on the defensive end has been fantastic in the last three games.  Another gritty performance by Jesse Geisel saw the team goal leader net twice to bring his season total to an impressive 8 goals in 10 games.  “There’s a big difference in Geisel this session,”  Said former Barons teammate Rob Anderson, “He looks slimmer, fitter, and stronger than I have seen him in a long time.” Anderson, who assisted on Geisel’s first goal, continues to be the gel in the center of the park.

After a three week absence Ruben Flores returned from holiday looking fresh and fit.  His strong play along the boards and fantastic distribution in the neutral zone has brought a new element to a previously stagnant Ouzo offence.  Gus Polymerus will be back in the line up for Arnold and Bart after an off week, adding a nice 1-2 punch for the strikers.  With a week before game time against the long time rivals, Ouzo FC looks focused and ready as they enter the playoffs for the first time in three sessions.  A 7:40pm kick off gives the boys plenty of time to recover, but captain Anderson has still placed a 24hr no alcohol policy in effect. An additional 48hr policy has been placed on Burlington Hooligans Wright and Fletcher.  How Bad Do We WANT IT?
