Game 9, June 4, 2005: Athletics 8 - Blue Jays 7

Posted by Rob Gemma on Jun 03 2005 at 05:00PM PDT
The Boys of Summer returned to Carrigan 2 Stadium today as the AA Athletics squared off against the Blue Jays. This game was a pitchers duel, as both teams had trouble sustaining any offensive momentum. The Athletics got solid pitching efforts from Peter Schaefer who pitched two strong innings, followed by Anthony Gemma, who went one and two-thirds innings. When Anthony ran out of gas in the hot June sun, Patrick Ryan came in and made the save, recording the games final out on a strikeout. The pitching staff was again helped out by backstop Alex Kraieski, who is quickly gaining a reputation as one of the best catchers in double A ball. On the defensive side of the ball, Sam Lukason made two unassisted putouts at second base to stifle Blue Jay rallies, Shayne Kaminski had a good day at the plate, driving in three of the eight A's runs. Also contributing offensively were James LeSuer, Kyle Gilbreath, Matt Burgess and Alden Hosmer, who worked the tiring Blue Jay staff for eight walks and recorded four rbi's. The regular season wraps up tomorrow when the A's face their long-time rivals, the Astro's. Bring your suntan lotion, some cold lemonade and enjoy the action at Colella Field in the EMC complex. This is the A's final tuneup before the playoff run begins and the team will be looking for your support.
